Does anyone have troubleshooting tips for when #immich face detection no longer detects faces? From april 1st not a single face has been automatically recognized as I add photos to my library. Afaik nothing special happened on april 1st (i.e. updates, settings changed). All pictures older than this day still retain their faces. If I go to "job queues" and start the process manually using the "missing" button it dutifully works for hours and counts through the photos it checks, but afterwards not a single face has been detected. I've also tried the "refresh" option with same result. I'm saving the "reset" option as a last resort because it'll mean lots of manual cleaning, writing names etc. #selfHosting

@hsorlie Have you checked the container for machine-learning? (assuming docker setup). It may hold a clue to the problem?

I can only say that Face recognition is working for me on version 2.7.5, running Docker.

And for some of the obvious things, you're not running out of space anywhere the containers are running/loading/storing stuff?

Tried updating, recreating the containers? Have you checked your compose file against the most recent version available from repo? Perhaps a recent update changed some parameters that makes this silently fail?

@nopatience Thanks! Some very helpful advice there. Containers, yes. Container manager on Synology DSM. No running out of space, and all containers are running smoothly, apparently. I compared my compose file line by line with the newest release, and found nothing. That was a good tip. I have also upgraded to 2.7.5 after I noticed this error the first time, and at the time I hoped that the update would fix it. But no.

@hsorlie Hmm... weird. Wish I could be of more help, but I'm a little out on deep water here.

I've had a few issues myself, but that was mostly because of me forgetting to actually check the compose file etc.

            No issues with new/changed env-keys?

@hsorlie Just a hunch. Assuming that face detection goes through the images chronologically, could it be that there is a corrupt photo or one with a file name which may cause conflicts or the process to get stuck?

@hsorlie I'm also having issues on 2.7.5. I'm using Intel CPU for ML, so the OpenVino backend I think. I think this is likely the issue tracking it:

I have searched the existing issues, both open and closed, to make sure this is not a duplicate report. Yes The bug Dear all, I would like to report an issue that I noticed very recently (possibly less than a week ago), likely following ...

@nopatience Not as far as I'm able to tell. But thank you for your help! Some suggestions there that was nice to check out! Worst case I suppose I'll just reset face recognition. It's hassle, but not the end of the world. Or I'll just set immich up again from scratch. 99%, it's me who have taken a wrong turn somewhere. 🤷‍♂️

@Elephant Thanks! That's worth checking out. I can delete a few photos around where it breaks, and see what happens. I can always add them again afterwards.

@maxwells_daemon This is interesting. Thanks! I hadn't seen it. I'll read up a bit and see if I can attempt a rollback or something.

@hsorlie Make sure you’re not hitting this bug: https://github.com/immich-app/immich/issues/27228#issuecomment-4499190851

I was and this fixed it, but your symptoms sounds slightly different. Something to check, at least.
