What is the deal with Dubai chocolate all of a sudden?

@APBBlue You've a right to be annoyed. It's been hyped for a very long time (>year at least), the boom caused by TikTok (of course).

I tried some made by a good chocolatier (already forgotten who, so not *that* good), and it's tasty when done right.

BUT it seems it's now being used as a fancy name for pistachio in chocolate, no kataifi.

And it's everywhere: gas stations, 99 Ranch has a cheap Chinese one that's gross and tastes like cornflakes, Dollar Tree has waffle cone tips with pistachio.

Hershey is the OG enshittifier: they intentionally ruin their flagship product to make it taste of sour milk because of nostalgia, and they've bought up every other international chocolate brand's US distro rights and ruined those recipes too.

So yeah, the Hershey kitkat version is the ultimate sign that the trend is gone.

@APBBlue I’ve wondered the same thing myself. I’d never heard of it until a couple of months ago. I do admit to enjoying Dubai chocolate-flavored coffee, but I don’t know how, or if, it differs from other chocolate.

The only difference is it's full of "pistachio" paste and has crushed "pistachios" on top
