How frequently do you chat with LLM?
@falcennial You really need a "very rarely" option. I couldn't honestly say not at all because every once in a while I'll try something on the local Ollama install I have, just to see if I still find it disappointing, and when I inevitably do, I don't touch it for a few months again. I don't use the cloud hosted ones at all. But "a few times a month" is definitely way overstating my usage.
-
@falcennial Yeah. I'm privileged in that I don't have to use them for work, but some people are forced to, I read.
@adriano @falcennial Unwillingly yes, support services are mostly chatbot first.
-
@AdamDavis woops, I replied in a tangential context but u feel me.
@falcennial
NP. In my clumsy way, I'm trying to say this poll is valuable, even though I feel guilty for not being able to select the "never" option.I have been thinking a bit about the dubious things people will do for work which they wouldn't do on their own. So, a poll that highlights that would be interesting.

How frequently do you chat with LLM?
@falcennial Can one technically chat with an LLM?
-
@falcennial None, if you don't count the multiple times a day that I curse Gemini back into its hole for touching the power button for a picosecond too long on my android phone.
@GranVegas @falcennial you can usually (well as least I can, Samsung S25) set the side buttton long press to do something else (mine goes to the power off menu).
And I also have the Gemini App and all AI features disabled. -

@falcennial
never willing - but some websites will not put you in touch with customer service until you attempt to use their chatbot; which is never actually helpful -

How frequently do you chat with LLM?
@falcennial How often I chat with an LLM? Given that the way we now need to file IT or HR tickets at work is by first harrassing the obligatory "helpful chatbot" into allowing me to file a ticket, too bloody often.

How frequently do you chat with LLM?
@falcennial do you mean chat as in hold casual conversation, or as in interact at all? I use them, but strictly as tools, not for conversation.

@falcennial Define "chat": small talk, or *any* interaction?

Chat as in talking with a person? Never
Chat as in "do this task" ? That's my day job now -
@falcennial What can I say, I like the company of the own nonsense my brain generates
@farah

I'm glad to be subjected to it too -

How frequently do you chat with LLM?
@falcennial technically when had LLMs forced on me as part of trying to get customer service etc, I've verbally abused them for a while until they pissed off, but, interpreting your question as "How frequently you willingly chat with LLM?" I picked never. ~~~~

@falcennial I'm secretly a fan of AI/LLM's but no, I won't use them in their current form.
Once it's modular - I can fit it easily into a linux PC
Once it's user-trainable - And not a theft machine of the arts and commons for the richest people on earth

@falcennial what do you mean with „chat“ ? Talking or working? I am a developer and I use it for developing and testing
-
@indigoparadox I miss old search too! duck duck go still has one.
@falcennial I mean, DuckDuckGo was my first stop until recently, but it's even worse at finding things than StartPage which I always end up at, so I just started defaulting to that. And that isn't great at finding stuff either! No boolean operators, and stuff just plain doesn't turn up!

Like, chat as a fake friend? Hell no.
Or one-shot "explain why this SQL code thing isnt working". Yeah, I do that.
Going through a SQL class right now, and the LLM output IS helpful, when compared to #Zybooks. Fuck Zybooks. Worse than slop.
These things are crystallized associations of knowledge copied from everything thats not bolted down.
LLM tools are useful, but they are tools. Atttributing "chat" or communication is anthropomorphizing a massive multi billion dimensional array.

@falcennial Honestly, I wouldn’t know how to. I’m sure I could if I was bothered but I’m not.

@falcennial I'd say not at all because I don't use it for assistance, but I put a couple times a month because I do occasionally chat with it to test its limits (biases, boundaries, absurdities)
