How frequently do you chat with LLM?
@falcennial
thing is, certain info is NOT available on any given website that has a CHATBOT option, they force you to ask the bot -

How frequently do you chat with LLM?
@falcennial There is no option for me. I do chat with LLMs but less than once per month.

@falcennial@mastodon.social
where's 'using one to answer this pole' -
@falcennial I mean, DuckDuckGo was my first stop until recently, but it's even worse at finding things than StartPage which I always end up at, so I just started defaulting to that. And that isn't great at finding stuff either! No boolean operators, and stuff just plain doesn't turn up!
@indigoparadox @falcennial Kagi is nice but costs dollarinos

@falcennial like in a conversation, or just tell it yo generate something?

@falcennial
Chat?As in "Add the appropriate HTML tags to this plain text because I'm a lazy bastard?" about once a month.
Actually have a conversation? Not since ChatGPT was first released to see what it would do and it got real boring real fast.
@Rhodium103 @falcennial This is very nearly a perfect summary of my feelings.
But to put it even more simply:
"Have I EVER _willingly_ (ie, without threat, implicit or otherwise, of losing my job) talked to an LLM?"
No.

@falcennial What do you mean by chat? Do you mean use it?
-
Chat as in talking with a person? Never
Chat as in "do this task" ? That's my day job now@javascript really good context

-
@chopsstephens @atlefren one of the many thoughtful people commented earlier that they removed the chatbot festure to use pronouns to address itself pretending to be a person. ๐ค๐ค๐ค
could be a good basis for legislation to protect against the psychosis where people are manipulated into taking it for a person.
-
@falcennial What do you mean by chat? Do you mean use it?
@brandonbutler my definition is a back and forth with two or more volleys each. but I'll leave it open to interpretation, the brevity to semantic accuracy differential falls squarely within the common sense buffer.

@brandonbutler with that being said I know it is the precision people paying that bill, so thank you for giving it that extra participation. highly valued.
-
@falcennial like in a conversation, or just tell it yo generate something?
@idiot300 my thinking was a conversation of 2 volleys each, but people can interperet chat to be 1 input as they see fit (or any other definition of chat) for this one.

@mortentorten haha yeah. I should've semanticed the answers to encompass all use cases. seems a common one is along the lines of "used it twice in 2024 and not since, except for work."
-
@rasteri key question I didnt even consider. poll taker decides if that counts for their vote.
-
@UrbanCityCowboy so you are way ahead of humanity on protecting yourself against AI psychosis. well done!
-
@falcennial do you mean chat as in hold casual conversation, or as in interact at all? I use them, but strictly as tools, not for conversation.
@jaseg very helpful and clear distinction.
using chat interface to dialogue,
vs using chat interface to do stuff.gaining an appreciation for that distinction.
-
@falcennial does โonly when itโs the only way to contact customer supportโ count as โnot at allโ?
@ShadSterling very good question. forced or coerced usage is a good distinction when asking about these experiences.
I'd defer to the participant's judgement on including or excluding it from poll. (personally I'd exclude it.)
-
@falcennial Can one technically chat with an LLM?
@thejessiekirk oh yeah. the full blown AI psychosis cases from doing so are intense.
although I'm sure there are many more non-harmful instances of doing so. it being a normal private activity that the news couldnt and wouldnt report on the way they report on the AI killings and so forth.
but yeah, people do.
