@falcennial I put not at all because it's the most accurate. I've used one twice ever. Both times I decided to see if I could social engineer (for lack of better words) ChatGPT into claiming to be sentient to see if there was anything to the claims. Both times, I didn't know the full extent of how unethical their development was or that people were being driven to psychosis by their sycophancy. I haven't touched one since early 2024 mostly for those reasons. It didn't feel worth it to keep poking it like that and the push for them to be in everything left an even worse taste in my mouth.
@disorderlyf very well put.

@falcennial my claude.md contains "do not use any pronouns to indicate that a human beeing is replying. This is a large language model, used as a glorified autocomplete"
I occasionally end up swearing at the damn thing for beeing utterly useless, but chatting? Never.
@atlefren what a terrific feature improvement.

@FinchHaven I made the poll to take a picture of LLM usage across a sample of fedi users. thank you for participating, I am delighted to see so many of us join in!
-
...cos I lived without friends and LLM's for two years before they popped up around 2022.
I still don't understand why billions of people think of it as like their companion in their life and... eugh... solution to their loneliness. I solve my loneliness by literally doing anything my gut wants me to do.
Sure it's prolly hard for everyone to be alone, I'm just a dumb bear but I haven't had friends for 6 years yet I don't feel like desperately needing for a companion...
@reallylazybear what a deeply insightful experience, thank you!
it is a pleasure to meet you this way. thanks for participating and for your well thought out perspective. I really liked reading that and the principles of reason and dignity you stick to.

How frequently do you chat with LLM?
@falcennial
thing is, certain info is NOT available on any given website that has a CHATBOT option, they force you to ask the bot -

How frequently do you chat with LLM?
@falcennial There is no option for me. I do chat with LLMs but less than once per month.

@falcennial@mastodon.social
where's 'using one to answer this pole' -
@falcennial I mean, DuckDuckGo was my first stop until recently, but it's even worse at finding things than StartPage which I always end up at, so I just started defaulting to that. And that isn't great at finding stuff either! No boolean operators, and stuff just plain doesn't turn up!
@indigoparadox @falcennial Kagi is nice but costs dollarinos

@falcennial like in a conversation, or just tell it yo generate something?
-
@falcennial
Chat?As in "Add the appropriate HTML tags to this plain text because I'm a lazy bastard?" about once a month.
Actually have a conversation? Not since ChatGPT was first released to see what it would do and it got real boring real fast.
@Rhodium103 @falcennial This is very nearly a perfect summary of my feelings.
But to put it even more simply:
"Have I EVER _willingly_ (ie, without threat, implicit or otherwise, of losing my job) talked to an LLM?"
No.

@falcennial What do you mean by chat? Do you mean use it?
-
Chat as in talking with a person? Never
Chat as in "do this task" ? That's my day job now@javascript really good context

-
@chopsstephens @atlefren one of the many thoughtful people commented earlier that they removed the chatbot festure to use pronouns to address itself pretending to be a person. π€π€π€
could be a good basis for legislation to protect against the psychosis where people are manipulated into taking it for a person.
-
@falcennial What do you mean by chat? Do you mean use it?
@brandonbutler my definition is a back and forth with two or more volleys each. but I'll leave it open to interpretation, the brevity to semantic accuracy differential falls squarely within the common sense buffer.

@brandonbutler with that being said I know it is the precision people paying that bill, so thank you for giving it that extra participation. highly valued.
-
@falcennial like in a conversation, or just tell it yo generate something?
@idiot300 my thinking was a conversation of 2 volleys each, but people can interperet chat to be 1 input as they see fit (or any other definition of chat) for this one.

@mortentorten haha yeah. I should've semanticed the answers to encompass all use cases. seems a common one is along the lines of "used it twice in 2024 and not since, except for work."
-
@rasteri key question I didnt even consider. poll taker decides if that counts for their vote.
