You’ll find out what options I considered and tried, as well as what inconveniences are worth keeping in mind. I also provide an example of how to collect what’s important for you when choosing a device for degoogling.

@Kurt Thanks for your comment.
Perhaps you're referring to where I wrote, “Most de-Googled variants are forked from LineageOS.” I deliberately wrote “most,” not “all.” -

@david_bardos Hello Dávid, thank you very much for sharing your trip to #ungafam #ungoogle
Your blog makes it very clear.
I 100% agree with you when you say we don't escape google by using their stuff. So 1° for me, no google pixel and no android at all
2° LINUX is very reliable.
3° if I didn't have 2 ooooold Samsung Galaxy phones (one A6 and one a10), I would choose the fairphone, for the same good reasons you gave.
4° I will try hard anything I can do with these phones, before deciding to 1/2 -

Thanks again, very helpful

@david_bardos Interesting article, and even more interesting website design!
One thing to note is that most people do not (and will not, ever) install an OS; they simply buy a device and Windows, macOS, Android, iOS come preinstalled. You could say they chose their OS by choosing the device.
In the same fashion, there are mobile Linux OSes, e.g. #PureOS and #FuriOS that just come preinstalled for users on devices: #Librem5, #LibertyPhone, #FLX1S+
I think it's this category of OSes that has the higher promise of adoption by normal non-technical folks.

@david_bardos I think there is a formatting error in the section about postmarketOS: The text after "The plus side:" and after "Known issues:" should probably have been formatted as lists.

@david_bardos
A great read and thanks for testing out the alternatives to Google/Apple(/Windows?) on mobile devices, I used to run all manner of "ROMs" like 10+ years ago, sadly the same deal breakers persist: camera, radio and incomplete alternative package bases.
Also being rather limited in supported devices isn't ideal.
What has happened for desktop computers regarding open source alternatives has not happened effectively for mobile devices unfortunately and this is a great shame. -

@oysteini Thanks!
