@Casey But *why*?! Terrestrial solar is absurdly cheap, the cheapest way to produce electricity by far. Panel efficiency and cost are continually improving. Storage tech is getting better and better. And it’s not like we’re running out of land to site solar farms. It’s vastly easier to install, maintain, repair, upgrade, and expand terrestrial infrastructure. (And of course space-based power will still need huge swaths of land for receiver farms.)Like mining lunar Helium-3 for fusion fuel, space -based solar power is a solution looking for a problem, promoted by people who are not concerned about power generation, but instead concerned about finding justifications to do stuff in space.

@CelloMomOnCars @primonatura I'm guessing both! The city offers financing against the property called a "Local Improvement Charge" basically a lien against the civic address at a fixed interest rate, which is paid back to them over a 10 year period.Originally, they're was incentives available Provincially that could be used in conjunction with the financing, but at the moment it's just financing.

#oldnews - Updated Jan 10, 2026 I Came to CES to Check Out Energy and Solar Power Innovations and Found That China Is Running Laps Around Us > LAS VEGAS—Elon Musk once said that if you wake up believing the future will be better, it’s a bright day. Walking into CES in Las Vegasfor the first time ever this week, I expected that brightness. What I found instead was uneven lighting, particularly in the area that concerned me the most: consumer-grade energy storage and solar generation. > My interest is personal. More frequent and intense storms in North Carolina, where I live, have been disrupting our power in the summers and winters. I’m also working from the road a lot and need power for my electronics. So I’ve researched ways of generating and storing my own power, all while watching the tech’s acceleration—especially in the East.https://uk.pcmag.com/power-supplies/162522/i-came-to-ces-to-check-out-energy-and-solar-power-innovations-and-found-that-china-is-running-laps-a #CES2026 #SolarPower #CleanEnergy #China #EnergyStorage #TechInnovation #RenewableEnergy #CES #SolarTech #ClimateTech #NorthCarolina
