Three companies approved under the FCC router ban. One makes sense. One is already in the government's server cabinets. One is Amazon — and you don't tell Amazon no when they run your classified workloads. Also I pulled the SEC filing. Funny story.https://blog.ppb1701.com/heres-that-detailed-us-manufacturing-plan-indonesia-vietnam-and-thailand#fcc #routers #netgear #eero #amazon #adtran #policy #security #geopolitics #sec #blog #userhostile

It's turning out to be incredibly hard to dig up anything that might explain why and how Netgear managed to duck the tariffs, aside from its persistent lobbying efforts.According to Wikipedia, Netgear's prime manufacturers include "Hon Hai Precision or Foxconn Corporation." "Manufacturing occurs primarily in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and Taiwan.""Netgear was unaffected by US President Donald Trump's 25% tariffs on Chinese imports. Because all manufacturing is outsourced, the company was able to shift its production lines from China to Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia."Some background, from 2025:Yahoo: Netgear can double on TP-Link ban, may reach triple digits, says activist https://finance.yahoo.com/news/netgear-double-tp-ban-may-140746020.html One rabbit hole leads to another. @jik If it were me, I'd flash it with OpenWRT, cause I like tinkering with things knowing full well that I'll probably waste a day but have fun doing it. For any sane person though, assuming it currently supports WPA3, I'd say "it's fine, leave it". If it doesn't support WPA3, I'd recommend a shiny new Unifi access point with 6GHz and Wifi 7.
