@lil5@social.linux.pizzaThe #xmpp server #prosody is pretty low on resources usage. Not sure if that claim really holds. Also hosting it is not difficult. Never hosted an IRC server though.I use #IRC channels for e.g. #Debian but the feature set is pretty limited, compared to xmpp. I never considered really using #matrix as it felt slow and buggy in my tests.
I've been using Matrix to write a "chat" for myself, for some time now. I create a new room for myself (titled "note to self"), where I pour my own feelings, my thoughts, and to remind myself every time when I feel the need to.#matrix #element #foss

@leniwcowaty do you have an option to m any of it out of Hetzner and onto local hardware? That’s how my Mastodon instance is running for example. I use a Hetzner VPS as a layer 2 proxy to send encrypted tests over a WireGuard tunnel back to my house where Mastodon itself is running on a used Dell machine I bought on eBay (which also runs a whole bunch of other things for me). Means I only need the smallest VPS.
@liaizon @Ric There is also a #Matrix bot thas some bridge functionality to Mastodon and Peertube, which you might consider 'bridging'. Perhaps not useful to you, but mentioning just in case.https://delightful.coding.social/delightful-fediverse-experience/#matrix-bridges
