Nairobi, Gulf Energy’s headquarters, is reintroducing an oil extraction project in northwest Kenya, five years after Tullow Oil abandoned the field. Residents of Turkana County claim that Tullow’s exploration activities damaged the environment; a 2022 study revealed heavy contamination in eight of fourteen groundwater samples taken near the wells in the Lokichar Basin. Furthermore, some residents have reported health problems. Seventy-three residents have filed a complaint against Tullow and the local and national governments, demanding land rehabilitation and preventing further damage. Locals say they will challenge Gulf Energy and regulatory authorities now that efforts to develop the oil field have resumed.Kapese: Petroleum Ambitions CenterKAPESE, Kenya — At first glance, Kapese, a dusty settlement with traditional manyattas and livestock left to graze freely, seems far removed from Kenya’s petroleum ambitions. Aside from a few water wells and a small primary school with the Tullow Oil logo, little of the promised development materialized for residents. After Tullow halted operations in 2020, much of the extractive infrastructure that characterized the surrounding landscape was dismantled. Many locals used well gates and fences as scrap metal, while heavy plastic sheeting, once used for the storage of drilling waste, now sits on the roofs of many nearby manyattas. The article “The New Oil Push in Kenya Faces a Controversial Legacy” appears to be the first on Sicilianews24.it.#Kenya #Nairobi #GulfEnergy’s #TullowOil #TurkanaCounty #theLokicharBasin #GulfEnergy #KAPESE #first #Kapese #theTullowOil #TheNewOilPush https://www.sicilianews24.it/il-nuovo-slancio-del-kenia-per-il-petrolio-affronta-uneredita-controversa-823302.html

The Lumsa and Cuea universities are strengthening their partnership with a winter school in Kenya.AGI - Fourteen Italian students from the private Lumsa University traveled to Kenya to participate in a two-week special winter school, within the framework of a partnership with the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).
