There were 349,823 surveillance targets in 2025, an increase from about 246,000 in 2022. Although the targets must be foreigners, Americans get swept up in the warrantless surveillance. The Court itself has characterized the FBI’s use of those data over several years as "persistent and widespread" violations. In 2021, there were over 3.4 million known searches on American citizens. According to the Brennon Center, these violations included “warrantless searches for information about a local political party” and searches “when two men ‘of Middle Eastern descent’ were loading cleaning supplies into a truck.” Today we have no idea how many searches – legal or illegal – there might be because the Trump Administration has killed the tool that monitored the searches.Section 702 of FISA needs a clear requirement that searches related to American citizens comply with the Fourth Amendment and occur only with a warrant.#Resist #ResistOfTheDay #FISA
