RE: https://neuromatch.social/@neurofrontiers/115155966452338332My first attempt at posting a random neuro factoid every day for a year didn't go very far. I made it for 16 days, to be more precise. In all honesty, I severely underestimated how demanding starting a new role would be.But I finally feel more settled and ready to give it another shot and see how far I can get this time. So attempt #2 starts here.Day 1: Engaging in physical activity is one of the best things you can do for your brain health. Working out improves processing speed, learning capacity, and memory. It tends to decrease depressive symptoms and improve mood. And it has indirect effects on brain health by helping with stress reduction, potentially being a social activity, helping you make healthier food choices, and improving sleep.#ShyButSharing365 #neuroscience #health #BrainHealth #exercise #workout #PhysicalActivity

@jeffowski 100% agree, PE made me hate sports in general, physical exercise, and the most part of masculinity as it exists in western Europe. Still feeling uncomfortable and humiliated in sportswear and lockers 20+ after my secondary school years.

@miffyhelen@beige.party I feel for you. It's crazy to do that much work and commitment for nothing.Having said that, running is good for cardio but it's terrible on the body and, as you've seen, it's not a good weight loss tool. Consider a hamburger has like 1,000 calories and you burn around 100 calories an hour jogging (variations based on weight but around there). It's just not possible to run weight off without a complementary diet change that reduced calories as well. ‍️
