LibreOffice will stick ai tools in an upcoming release. Do we know of office suites (running on Linux) that do not have artificial idiots in their roadmap?

Alternatively I will stick with the version I'm running now.

@paulk Ik lees in het artikel dat de AI-componenten uitgezet kunnen worden. Ik vind het een slecht idee om AI in LibreOffice te integreren, maar in deze vorm vind ik het voorlopig acceptabel. Ik werk al sinds 2011 met LibreOffice. Daarvoor gebruikte ik OpenOffice, waarvan LibreOffice een vork was. Misschien komt er nu een AI-vrije vork.

@paulk Is this article hallucinated by AI? The LibreOffice version numbers end in .2 and .8 (ie, released in February and August). 26.4 doesn’t exist. All discussions I’ve seen about integrating AI have always been very negative and the conclusion is that we should leave that up to optional extensions.

@erikwesselius En het verschijnt overal. Als het 'vereenvoudigen van tekst' als een speerpunt wordt genoemd, is dat wederom een indicatie dat de mensheid dommer moet worden.
Mijn vriendin is lerares op een gymnasium, en zij klaagt er steen en been over. Alles is crapgpt en 'maak dat eens wat eenvoudiger'.

Dat plus de ontlezing is zo'n slechte zaak...

@paulk @erikwesselius eens met de zorgen en de attitude richting AI; maar ook weer niet ALLE AI is per sé evil, ik heb Deepl vertaling al wel eens getest geïntegreerd in LibreOffice, ook dat is in principe een vorm van AI, ik moet dan dus eigenlijk DeepL vertrouwen, want dat zet de teksten om van taal naar taal (bij Google Translate niet anders, maar doe mij dan maar DeepL)

@zandbelt Zeker. Predictive ai helpt bv met het vinden van behandelingen en zo. Ik gebruik deepl ook wel eens. Alles 'google' raak ik met geen geïsoleerde stok aan.

@zandbelt Tijdelijke opslag kan niet missen. Het moet ergens staan om te worden verwerkt, al is het maar een paar seconden. Da's in elk geval wel erg netjes gemeld zo. Ik heb een betaalde deepl-versie gehad om te testen, maar ik doe er niet genoeg mee om het bedrag te rechtvaardigen.

@paulk @erikwesselius voor mij idem, daarom vooralsnog de Free versie die ik ook echt maar zelden gebruik, op mijn telefoon gebruik ik DeepL en in de webbrowser ook, dus toots in onbekende buitenlandse taal heb ik dan met DeepL optie om te vertalen (ipv Google Translate)

@paulk This article is incorrect. There is no such thing as "LibreOffice 26.4 beta". And LibreOffice is not "introducing AI" in any way. Some community members are working on optional, separate extensions but that's another matter.

@ashwin @paulk There's no need for any fork because the article is misleading. First, there is no such thing at all as "LibreOffice 26.4 beta". The next major release will be LibreOffice 26.8, due to go into beta in early June. So the article author just invented that, apparently.

And LibreOffice is not "introducing AI" into the software. There are no plans to put AI in LibreOffice. Some people are working on optional extensions.

@libreoffice @ashwin @paulk very glad to hear this! i am completely unimpressed with everyone making LLM plugins for emacs, but emacs itself continues to ensure it can be trusted by experts for decades of reliable usage. i'm glad to hear libreoffice's extension API is powerful enough to allow this (although an LLM plugin is basically the hello world of plugins).
