      @anon_opin a little bit ableist but I understand that the average reading age of adults in my country is around 9 to 11 years old...

          @anon_opin counterpoint: the education system should enable all kids to reach this level by the time they finish compulsory schooling.

            @LevelUp @anon_opin That's actually the statistic for most Western countries. In #uk for example, the average adult reading age is comparable to a 12 year old's reading comprehension.

            But also in UK, 1 in 6 adults (17% of UK population) are officially classified as being illiterate.

            For context, having a population with a 15% to 25% illiteracy rate is comparable to populations in developing nations such as sub-Saharan Africa, Chad, El Salvador, Zambia, Eritrea, etc.
