@cmconseils I was at the airport on Friday and tried one of the QR code menus. Ended up giving up since it was a total failure of a website and went somewhere else.

@zetasyanthis @cmconseils it's because one should not get to a website. We have smartphones, not Desktops. It's not 1995. It's not http we need. There should be a broad sub App ecosystem like in WeChat or AlyPay. They create an intermediary to share payment and order informations and the one-stop App runs the whole X economy. The case of China shows even with 5th grade literacy it works.

@print @cmconseils And you save paper printing all that menus every season (or when prices change).
Bonus: it detects my device/browser language and shows the menu in my language.

Having paper is good. Normally the family pick off the paper and someone uses the QR to order

@cmconseils What's real fun is the confusion you can cause by paying in cash.

@maccruiskeen Where you’re still allowed to do so. There’s no longer a requirement in the uk for retailers to accept cash payments. On the other hand there are places which only accept cash, which can also be a pain if you’re not expecting it. That reminds me, I need to go and find a cash machine, the thirty quid I took out months ago has run out 😀

I ate in a restaurant about a year ago that had a QR code to scan to see the menu on your phone. Trouble is my phone would not scan their QR code for some reason. They had no printed menus and did not know the web address that the QR code was supposed to send me. Technology fail.

@cmconseils I want a printed menu on the table. However if there’s no table service I also like to be able to order by phone from my table so that some scrote doesn’t nick my seat/jacket/bag while I’m ordering at the bar. The joys of eating out on your own 🙄

While we’re on the subject of menus 3.6, 9.5, 10 etc are not prices you trendy hipster pillocks, use a £ (or € $ ¥ as appropriate) 😕

                @kkarhan @Uair

                thinking is labourois and hard

                (You meant laborious?)

All I can tell you is that when I lie awake some nights trying desperately to sleep, my brain is stuck on contemplating the meaning of life and our place in the universe. Rather than laborious, I can't get it to just shut up and quiet down for a bit.

I get it, I'm not normal, but I just struggle to accept that the average person truly struggles to think. I honestly believe, rather, they've been taught to think of it that way. It's like the way doing a task can feel more and more tedious and hard the more you really think about every single step of what you're doing while, conversely, you could do the task without thought and find it easy.

They want to do thinking without thought...

                There's a good middle ground.

@Uair I will do neither of those things. So far the best I've come up with is some games seem to help me find a less mentally active ground, but the best sorts for this are too rare for me sadly.

@Uair I generally tolerate sleep deprivation well, but of course it doesn't mean I don't need enough sleep in general. Finding the right things to help is indeed very tricky and it's an ongoing process for me.

(And yes, I also know of reading, but I'm not really very good with reading boring things and interesting things tend to stimulate me instead. That's just an inb4 since someone will probably hop on and suggest it as if I've never heard the idea, lol.)

@entichahoosh @cmconseils not phone number, but they might be able to identify and track your device through either cookies or "browserprint". I don't know if EFF's panoptic tester webpage is still online, but that could tell you more.

🚾 The use of QR-code-as-menu is bad for several reasons:

🚫Don't create burdens for your customer.
🚫Don't use tools that put customers at risk or require they vet your lazy use of a gimmick.
🚫Don't allow tech dorx to mine customer data with a "virtual menu" hosted on quikmenu.ai.biz.xyz.blah

                                    - - - - -

🏆🏆🏆 Here is a good use of a QR code:

When attending a play, a theatre hands you a small, printed, business-card-size show program with logo and basic details about the show.

Scanning the QR code on the card opens a full size show program. 🎶🎭🎨

✔️The show's program is hosted on the theatre's website.

✔️The full URL is printed alongside the QR code.

✔️The URL remains active as long as the theatre exists.

✔️Patrons may download a PDF of the full program.

                                    🔸You trust the source.
🔸The physical card is a souvenir.
🔸Save $$$ / environment by not printing large full color programs.
🔸Can add much more info to the bios of cast / crew - even clips of them performing should they choose - for future casting opptys.
🔸Theatre can still feature sponsors of their org and also include static NON-tracking links to their advertisers.

🧡 Users WIN | Theatres WIN | Environment WIN

                                      Dear restaurant owners:
We ALL hate the QR code menu.
                                      Stop.
                                      -everyone

@cmconseils If QR code leads to a restaurant website that has menu listed is somewhat fine but when qr code leads you to PDF document menu you could have just printed that PDF and put somewhere on the table or near the table.
