    @Uair I will do neither of those things. So far the best I've come up with is some games seem to help me find a less mentally active ground, but the best sorts for this are too rare for me sadly.

    @nazokiyoubinbou

    Good luck. Don't lose track of the fact that sleep deprivation fups your thinking. Personally, after three or so days I'm totally useless as a thinker.

      @Uair I generally tolerate sleep deprivation well, but of course it doesn't mean I don't need enough sleep in general. Finding the right things to help is indeed very tricky and it's an ongoing process for me.

      (And yes, I also know of reading, but I'm not really very good with reading boring things and interesting things tend to stimulate me instead. That's just an inb4 since someone will probably hop on and suggest it as if I've never heard the idea, lol.)

        @cmconseils Luckily I don't eat out anywhere where this is the case. Do the QR codes give them your phone # or any identifying info?

        @entichahoosh @cmconseils not phone number, but they might be able to identify and track your device through either cookies or "browserprint". I don't know if EFF's panoptic tester webpage is still online, but that could tell you more.

          @cmconseils Stick alternative QR codes over them and maybe they'll stop.

            I also like qr codes at the Museum so i can read the description of the thing i am looking at on my phone, or even listen to it as an audio guide.

            @MountainWizard @replicajune @grumpydad @cmconseils they could just put a short link to the relevant bit of their website instead.

              "Dear QR-code-menu-only restaurant,

              To receive payment for the meal I just ate, please download my app (just accept all the required permissions) and scan this QR code."

              (while I've managed to avoid QR-code-menu-only restaurants, encountering such a situation would be enough to just walk out of said restaurant)

                  @cmconseils@mastodon.social i’ve never seen one IRL, but having it as the only option would definitely leave out those who aren’t tech-savvy

                    @cmconseils

                    🚾 The use of QR-code-as-menu is bad for several reasons:

                    🚫Don't create burdens for your customer.
                    🚫Don't use tools that put customers at risk or require they vet your lazy use of a gimmick.
                    🚫Don't allow tech dorx to mine customer data with a "virtual menu" hosted on quikmenu.ai.biz.xyz.blah

                    - - - - -

                    🏆🏆🏆 Here is a good use of a QR code:

                    When attending a play, a theatre hands you a small, printed, business-card-size show program with logo and basic details about the show.

                    Scanning the QR code on the card opens a full size show program. 🎶🎭🎨

                    ✔️The show's program is hosted on the theatre's website.

                    ✔️The full URL is printed alongside the QR code.

                    ✔️The URL remains active as long as the theatre exists.

                    ✔️Patrons may download a PDF of the full program.

                    🔸You trust the source.
                    🔸The physical card is a souvenir.
                    🔸Save $$$ / environment by not printing large full color programs.
                    🔸Can add much more info to the bios of cast / crew - even clips of them performing should they choose - for future casting opptys.
                    🔸Theatre can still feature sponsors of their org and also include static NON-tracking links to their advertisers.

                    🧡 Users WIN | Theatres WIN | Environment WIN

                      @cmconseils If QR code leads to a restaurant website that has menu listed is somewhat fine but when qr code leads you to PDF document menu you could have just printed that PDF and put somewhere on the table or near the table.
