Neon Genesis Evangelion was praised at the time for revitalising the mecha genre, but in retrospect, most mecha worth seeing was made before most young people were born. Anyone whose children were watching Battle Of The Planets or Transformers would be 70 or over by now I think. As always, interested to see how this poll goes.

Are there any mecha anime newer than FLCL worth seeing?

OK, I've asked for recommendations for me. How about people who don't know what a mecha anime is. Where would you start watching?

Macross then Patlabor 2? Would they be intelligible for a newbie?

Am I too ruthless with reply guys? No one is telling me what they think would be a good beginners mecha anime series or their favourite mecha anime?
