I am colourblind. I have completely rejected academic manuscripts and proposals that use only red and green in graphs without shape or line width differences. If they are that incompetent about use of colour, they are not going to be better in other things.

@Mellivora @fesshole if he gave that feedback with the rejections it could be in line with some accessibility regulations.

@Mabande@mastodon.social they're using their disability as an excuse to be a power tripping dickhead. I would've reported them and people like you making excuses for these sort of people are part of the problem. @fesshole

Just for posterity: They sent him charts he couldn't read. Was he supposed to give the go ahead on stuff he couldn't verify?

@fesshole YES! As a fellow colourblind person, I 100% support this!

1 in 35 women and 1 in 7 men are colour blind.

@elnecesario @fesshole I get mad at game designers who don't take this into consideration and add it as an accessibility option afterwards. Why not do it in the original design?

@fesshole When I did my teaching degree, my professor taught me to never use red or green on a whiteboard because colourblind students wouldn't be able to see it. Unfortunately, judging by the number or presentations I now see from professional people, it's not widely known. Or people just don't give a shit.

@fesshole OK, I don't disagree. I transitioned a few years ago to using accessible colours for my statistical figures. Everyone should learn about this! We can all explore methods of creating statistical figures that are accessible to communities with various abilities.

@Mellivora @fesshole All graphing software would have the lines distinguished by other things: dots and dashes, added squares or circles.

About one man in twelve has some form of colourblindness:

                                      Just a moment...

                                      favicon

If Fessor can't make sense of the graphs in the paper then a good many men (and a smaller number of women) will have the same problem. As long as Fessor explains the reason for rejecting the paper, I think it's valid.
