I’ve started using “vibe coded” as a generic disparagement for things unrelated to software, and am pleased to report that it generally lands (albeit in my fairly nerdy circles).

Friends over the weekend tried making some brownies with a vegan egg substitute but no modifications to accommodate that. The oils separated completely and they got a weird sludge that became increasingly tar-like as it cooled. I referred to them as “vibe-coded brownies,” and everybody was just like “ha, yep”

Lessons:
- works as an insult
- works as a joke
- doesn’t actually have to make metaphorical sense…thus:
- don’t overthink it, just vibe-joke it

@inthehands I know the focus is on the “vibe coding as an insult” and I am 100% on board with this but I will also drop in that Aquafaba works great as the egg substitute as it emulsifies the fats well and does not affect the flavor the way something like banana does.

@monkeyninja
I’ve definitely had really good vegan brownies before; I think the problem here was just that they figured what the heck and dropped the substitute in without actually adjusting the recipe around it. -

You are both right and this is a good thread.

Tasty slop, though, even if it was a little weird! Which is more than I can say for most of the AI variety -

A) I like the use of vibe-coded, and
2) We made some eggless brownies yesterday that turned out surprisingly well.
