    I understand ambivalence about TDoV. No one should _have_ to be visible, especially when that visibility is so dangerous.

    On the other hand, representation will always matter.

    Everyone contributes in different ways, you don't have to put yourselves out there.

    But enough of us do need to do that to change the shape of the conversation, to bend the arc of governance and policy making, and to ensure young trans folks can see that they have elders and a future.

      @robin great but I do that every day. it is called life.

      why is the onus on us to educate rather than on normies to be good neighbors and assume good faith

        @ariadne I think we're largely in agreement?

        Morally and in an ideal world, the onus shouldn't be on us. It should be on those with more power to get their shit together.

        And even in the imperfect world we live in, you living life _is_ enough at the level of the individual.

        But until we get to that ideal world, some folks are gunna have to stick their necks out — whether or not they should have to 🤷🏻‍♀️

          @robin yes. me existing is enough. why TDoV then?

          either

          - existing as a demonstrated to be reasonably successful trans person is enough

          or

          - simple existence is not enough

          where are these people who are convinced that trans people aren't evil after TDoV happens? I've never heard of anyone being "convinced" by this exercise

            @ariadne why TDoV? ... why Women's History Month? or Black History Month? or Queer History Month? or Disability Pride Month?

            It's not about direct persuasion, it's about normalizing and shining light where it has typically been withheld.

            Persuasion is downstream of awareness.
