@catdraoichta i was mostly tongue in cheek, not referring to any specific user and being hyperbolic, but yeah, some people be like that
@mynameistillian I use and like Fedora, myself. For me, it balances ease of use with advanced features for the mainstream Linux user quite well.
Though I am considering a switch to OpenSuSE, which is basically the European equivalent of Fedora, because I'm working to reduce my reliance on American tech.

@turtle @mynameistillian nah it usually goes like: "Languages: Python, Java, C++" (pretending a tech analogy is the real thing is their whole deal)

@mynameistillian@plush.city As a Windows hater with rather educated grammar, uh, not all of us are bad.
@flesh @mynameistillian you can hate Windows without hating people for having to use it. The former is anti-capitalist, the latter is anti- people who don't have the privilege of choosing their desktop environment (or have to choose based on factors like accessibility, and can't find a single Linux distro that's actually accessible to them). There's a world of difference there imo, as another Certified Windows Hater myself

@raphaelmorgan @flesh @mynameistillian yep, I'm stuck using Windows because linux accessibility is somewhere between 'trash' and 'nope'

@raphaelmorgan @flesh @mynameistillian microsoft is easily one of the most evil companies in world history and the hitler comparison is strange to hear from a professed anti-fascist. certainly the building of data centers on Black burial grounds tends to be less well-known but its centrality in the technical infrastructure of israeli genocide and conquest is thoroughly documented.

@raphaelmorgan @flesh @mynameistillian and @dwaynemonroe in particular has produced a youtube series with a materialist analysis of microsoft and windows in relation to the capitalist mode of societal organization which is much further off from this conception of "tech bro" than OP lets on https://youtube.com/watch?v=VABFg40a-pY

@hipsterelectron @raphaelmorgan @flesh @dwaynemonroe i appreciate that you care. those are real things. the problem is however the software i need (and trained to use) for my college work and other stuff isn't yet available on linux platforms and attempts to run it have so far proven futile. i am not a fan of windows, but i can't ditch it right now as of yet. if it is of any consolation i don't pay for anything microsoft does, i pirated that stuff and torn away all telemetry.

@hipsterelectron @raphaelmorgan @flesh @dwaynemonroe and the issue is the problem that linux techbros on here (note i say techbros specifically, not regular foss folk) act like the mere act of using linux or even linux distros they consider good makes them a better layer of society than others.

@raphaelmorgan @flesh @mynameistillian to some extent it seems worth considering whether reclaiming the capacity for critical analysis of technology from the excessive toxicity of the tech bros OP correctly denigrates would be a better use of time than recounting the many well-known issues that lead many servers to protect their users by fediblocking. one reason to motivate this is that these tech bros who denigrate the political valence of software tend to retain immense power and control of software projects like the rust programming language, whose code of conduct limits queer expression and whose governance structure protects racists

@hipsterelectron @raphaelmorgan @flesh @dwaynemonroe i eventually will transition to using linux or minimize my use of windows, but this process isn't always easy, as much as i wish it was. especially given i am not skilled when it comes to tech

@raphaelmorgan @flesh @mynameistillian and @freya's post https://social.highenergymagic.net/@freya/116325731377916208 is absolutely why acceding that critical space to people who consider empathy a weakness is a recipe to enable further harm. instead of rejecting windows for being icky, we can make it better and empower people who are forced to use it to varying degrees and through various forms of anticompetitive behavior
