    @hpod16 I am forever haunted by that one time on a school trip back in Latvia a chewing gum just suddenly disintegrated in my mouth. Imagine having sandy cuscus mixed with glue. Hard to get rid of

    Do not recommend!

    One plausibly sounding explanation for this that I've come across is that companies operating in the EU will send substandard versions of their products to the poorer countries. Would love to hear more about this

      @nCrazed
      that one's going to be hard to dig into, but it sounds very interesting. I remember similar complaints from some years ago, I think I recall a story about Nutella being different in Poland. So I can look into this, let's see if I find any EU response to it

        Thanks @hpod16! I'd be interested in how the heck did the weird veggie-meat-must-not-be-named-that idea become so popular among some politicians. It seems to be such an obvious industry lobbying ploy.

          @hpod16 @nCrazed Nutella has different recipes per country. E.g. in France it is more fluid to accommodate for baguettes texture, whereas in Germany it is more solid.

          Some decisions just come down to regional taste and culture. I guess it will be hard to find something on that topic.

            @dalcacer @hpod16 I'm guessing the thread to pull on is how "they" afford to have regional piercing for physical goods manufactured centrally and shipped to different countries

              Thanks for weighing in... I distinctly remember this being an EU story around 2017, and being raised by some Eastern European MEPs, specifically with the example of Nutella. I do wonder what came of it... When I have time, I want to dive into this with me special research skills...

                @hpod16 @nCrazed I‘ll support the research with a swift Nutella tasting. I’m feeling a little bit scientific and adventurous.

                      @hpod16 I may regret suggesting this one, but phytosanitary standards for importing food from non-EU countries? Like what are the standards like (in general) and how much do they vary based on where the food is being imported from?
