    Some devices are actually designed to be fixed. These choices make repairs easier, more economical, and less wasteful. This shouldn't be a feature. It should be the standard.

    Which one is the most important to you?

      @iFixit in order from most important to me to least: reversible fasteners, independently accessible parts, visual cues, tool-free disassembly. The thing I stumble on most often is being able to reassemble something I've taken apart and diagnosed, but in the taking-apart, I've done something I can't undo (or at least not with new parts or consumables).

          @iFixit

          All of them, plus e.g., durability of cases, flexibility...

            @iFixit

            Visual cues and tool-free disassembly aren’t necessary. They ARE very nice-to-haves, however. Being able to open a device with just a few screws is vitally important. I’d also like to see the world go back to removable batteries that install with a set of contacts vs some type of ribbon or other connector.

              @iFixit Independently accessible parts is high on my priority list, but that is assuming the parts are available off the shelf. A service manual with schematics and a visual diagram of parts placement shows a company welcomes repairability. When I had purchasing input in my working life, capital equipment costs were often secondary to repairability. It goes to total cost over the lifetime of the device

                @iFixit 2 important points for me : no special tools and, of course, spare part availability (not a given nowadays).

                  @iFixit In order: screws, parts, tool-free, and visual cues. The last one is nice, but unnecessary if there is a good umount/mount manual. As for helping beginners, well: that's our job as parents, right ?
