@jeffowski I really hope that the prices will crash when the AI bubble pops...
-
In today's news;
The #antiai #antiaislop folks discover infrastructure pipeline...
... These are the same folk who, when put into management roles by some misfortune, kill your bandwidth and impose limits because clients are "using too much stuff"

@jeffowski
This bubble just keeps getting bigger and thinner skinned. -
@jeffowski
Sadly so true.

@jeffowski If those plans fail, won't that lead to a crash in the price of memory? No way to know if or when that might happen. But, with so may links in the chain, if one link fails, that might lead to a crash.
@hoco β but in the meantime, they are making 4x profit. There is no downside for them, even if the market crashes. They made their money already so fuck the rest of us.
-
@jeffowski and don't forget that there are already more GPUs sitting unused in warehouses than physically CAN be powered before they become obsolete due to the time to build out power plants and lines.

@jeffowski
It's called logistics, sweetie. Look it up! /s -
@jeffowski The real reason this is happening now is not technical. This is an oligopoly barring prospect competitors from the market. Big prospective consumers to. With rising prices of token many CFOs would wonder about costs of buying hardware and keeping a tuned LLM in-house.
-
@jeffowski A very minor addition/correction, it's not that 'RAM' has been pre-emptively purchased, because the RAM being affected is DDR whereas the RAM being pre-emptively purchased is GDDR. Basically the production capacity is being pre-purchased to make GDDR instead of DDR RAM for GPUs that haven't been made yet.
