      @erkhyan at least Firefox now has an off switch, after latest updates, if you don't want to take the tiny step to waterfox or librewolf, which are both firefox without the AI scrapcode

      Chromes won't help you like that

            @patterfloof @erkhyan Waterfox is pretty much a drop-in replacement for Firefox, been recommending it to non-technical friends and they had no problems at all. I think it eben supports Firefox Sync with no problems.

                    @erkhyan
                    I mean, Mozilla stated publicly that they were confused at the concept of "consent" when people asked them not to put AI in their products. That might be a reason to put a pause on trust... How much better are the new user agreements for Firefox than chromium now that they are selling our data? (Honest question, i don't know) How will they change in the future? There is a trend now

                    I like Vivaldi (it's chromium)🙃
                    I also like Water Fox but i think they're riding a sinking codebase.

                    So the way i see it, i choose the system that ruined Firefox or i stay with a ruined Firefox, and I'm not looking to be a martyr for my browser politics (i am doing that for too many other things already)

                                      @erkhyan I see this cognitive distortion a lot. People don't back up and compare with a baseline, they just fuzzily judge based on how frequently they see a conversation happening, causing them to get things exactly backwards. I don't know what to do about it!

                                        Google does not, in fact, pay themselves* to put AI in Chrome

                                        *Actually, depending on how Alphabet does their internal accounting, they very well could be paying themselves to put AI in Chrome
