      One problem with that idea is that the crawler from the LLMs are enormously crappy designed and will lead to noticeable traffic.

      Attached: 1 image The AI botnets cannot be stopped. I am constantly getting scrape attempts for avatar-image-JPEG URLs that have not existed on my blog since a restructuring in 2022. They come in bursts of about a 100 per minute, each from a different IP address, and in random order. I thought: enough is enough, I need to figure out what clown service these are coming from and start blocking whole networks. Nope, they're almost all from cable modems, not from hosting facilities: https://jwz.org/b/yk7g

      @derderwish @sebastian @julesbl @PaulaToThePeople @MikeElgan Also, these businesses providing AI are finally having to justify their non-profitability and AI is finally starting to get expensive. I can't see how these attacks can keep going in a sustainable way, right? Who will cover those costs, with which money? It seems to me AI already started the process of getting to the tail end of the Gartner Hype Cycle chart. And it can't get there fast enough.

          @MikeElgan
          The kicker will be when enough business’s and government are hooked on the AI kool-aid, the prices will go up even higher than the energy bills we already have to pay to keep the dystopia running.

          Estamos bien jodidos, seems apposite.

            @MikeElgan

            Money being what it is - an illusion controlled by the banks -

            It is used to buy power over the quality of life of a certain group.

            it does not matter how much 'money' ai is wasting: it is merely buying that inescapable power over other humans.

            Power to starve, kill, maim, rape, enslave.

            Slavers will pay ANY price to have that power.

              @MikeElgan Amazon lost the money that I (probably) won't be able to collect in my entire life within seconds. Good.

                @nick_appleyard @MikeElgan I love how their “Enterprise Applications” are going to capture roughly 400% of the total worldwide IT spend. Can we please make fraud illegal again?

                    @MikeElgan And yet there's no sign of the shareholders suing the directors for failing in their fiduciary duties, which I presume means the shareholders are bent as nine bob notes too.

                    @only_ohm @MikeElgan big tech does not operate like a real business ruled by P&L, but more like an ancient prince who funds an alchemist and a theatre troupe out of the money his underlings extract (smaller VC tech operates like P.T. Barnum if his hicks were very rich men in California) https://www.bookandsword.com/resources/the-political-economy-of-american-tech-companies-since-2008/

                      @MikeElgan I don't think that those companies would spend so much money, with such little short term return if it did not make sense to do it.

                      What do you think will be the longer term return? Is this a combined competitive loss? Are they each compelled to do this? It seems like a lot but, are any of these companies going broke on this?

                      What is the end-game here?

                      @dckim @MikeElgan Look up what MSB and CDO's are and then what happened in 2007. People and companies make financial decisions and not all of them will be good. Only time will tell whether AI was a good investment or not.
