@smallcircles I experience it as a village that I can see is cozy for the people who truly belong in it, i.e., tech nerds with comfortable bank balances. For me, it's a nice place to visit, but it's slightly uncomfortable because many people just assume that everyone has the same access to tech and money. Too often, advice is given that would be helpful only to people who have high-speed internet, lots of gadgets, and disposable income.

I generally live in my home feed, so I'm really only seeing and interacting with what I aim to follow and the various communities there.
Occasionally I'll look at the public timeline and see all the bustle and activity but will find something new to follow, like going downtown and finding a new restaurant or hangout spot.

I asked about the influences of Buddhist philosophy on Greek Philosophy and was told to read this book which has taught me a lot! I didn't inquire as to the furry or Netherlands status of the suggesting mastodon user but neither status would have changed the expertise I experienced!
