          newest kit in there is Mackie 1642VLZ4. it's very nice but not sure if it's exactly the right choice...should be interesting no matter tho. definitely planning for it to be a nice new approach to the studio space.

            @tsrono I have the 1642VLZ3 and i love it. However, it's the 8-bus model and am I correct that they went down to 4-bus on the VLZ4?

            What limitations/issues are you running up against with it?

              @TROG yeah it's 4 bus...crazy the VLZ3 has 8, i don't think i noticed that in my researching the Mackies. 4 is plenty but i do love using a bus/send/etc. paradigm so 8 is interesting to consider, i imagine you can do a ton of different things with that.

              no limitations or issues yet other than it's not got a digital aspect. ideally it would be this exact mixer w/ it also hooked up to Ableton for multitrack recording (since i'm dreaming: w/ SD card on the mixer doing multitrack!)

                @tsrono @TROG another 1642VLZ3 user here - I've got the direct outs of the first four channels patched into the line ins of my MOTU Ultralite to mimic this, with returns from the MOTU going to the two stereo line-in channels. Works a treat!

                    @dried oh nice, i'd seen some other folks talking about similar approaches sorta mixing/matching ins & outs with theirs, i may have to get clever like that w/ mine but haven't got there yet

                    @TROG

                      @jules_rawlinson ha i've got a couple small ones...the Mix5. work just fine for submixing some small sections. may incorporate them in the new setup even, having those options is good. you've got a lot tho yeah... lol

                        @dried @tsrono That's an interesting approach. I haven't bought patch bays yet, but I've tried to map out how to leverage the direct outs, etc. in order to be able to route signals into my MOTU 828 and then have the first 8 channels on the desk be the 8 outs from the MOTU so i can mix down to 2 track (that part is also still TBD). I want to create the most flexible "set it and forget it" config that I can.

                          @dried @TROG btw, just realized that the VLZ4 is still an '8' bus model - i was thinking '4' in the sense of 4 stereo before...

                          was just doing some moving stuff a bit & noticed the 1-8 (shown as 1-4/5-8) & looked up the VLZ3... glancing at the 3, it looks identical unless i'm missing something. maybe something on the back's changed maybe, face looks to have the exact same functionality.

                          anyway, non-important update
