Telling people to use WhatsApp over Signal, or in conjunction with Signal, is stupid.
-
You couldn't pay me to trust Signal, either.
@Mannanan Well that's the other thing. Session is better, sure. But. In having trained people hands on, I can tell you Signal is a lot easier for them to use. So that's the one I tell people to START with, not end with.

@bjmendelson @delta is an awesome alternative.
No registration, decentralized, based on existing protocols.
Easy to install, to connect and to use on multiple devices. -

@bjmendelson did whatsapp stop automatically downloading your contacts address book or?

@condret @bjmendelson u need updates if u want security. What a stupid sentence?

@nando161 @bjmendelson prism break is not a good source.
Lurk soatok/privacyguides for more up-to-date resources.

@bjmendelson @Mannanan what about Matrix/Element? Is Session really the golden standard?
-
@condret @bjmendelson just another stupid sentence.
Don't cry here if you get hacked or something.
U either get the latest updates or u don't use tech in 2026.
The most bigoted shit that I heard until today.
You're simply talking like an average digdeeper reader.
-
@bjmendelson Agreed.

@bjmendelson I would never tell people to use WhatsApp. But I would tell people they can *also* use Signal, *even if* for whatever (misguided) reason they can't leave WhatsApp.
@MishaVelthuis @bjmendelson this is right. I only use signal, but asking people to make that leap in one go will result in a lot of resistance.
Good for people to be able to try signal and find out how good it is, at least have some secure conversations and maybe eventually delete WhatsApp later.
