Everything here works through hashtags. When you use a hashtag, all users who follow that hashtag will see your post. When you follow (subscribe to) a hashtag, you’ll see all posts that include that hashtag. There’s no other way to share your posts.

PS: You can filter (=mute) hashtags here and also mute boosts. Since I toot and boost a lot of US politics stuff, you may want to make use of these features!

You have the option of using the 'mute' option to quietly ignore any new posts of an individual user. There isn't a 'mute all posts from sites hosted in an entire country' <I think.>
Mastodon is an evolving software package and that might be introduced in a later version. I would personally regret to see that. -
