@Sobtanian I’m right-handed but go left first. I think it stems from the knowledge that in a maze, if you go left all the time you’ll eventually find your way out.
@SirSwatch does that actually work?
I’ve only done a couple of IRL mazes and got very stuck; on was when my wife was 2 weeks overdue with our youngest son, I was convinced she was going to go into labour in this maze in the middle of nowhere

@Sobtanian It does indeed. I was in a maze with my son when he was young, so I tried it out. It makes you travel through most of the maze, but it does work.

@SirSwatch wow cool! If only I knew back then

Gaming observation and survey:
Whenever I’m faced with a choice of left or right, I always choose left first. Doesn’t matter if it’s a path, a menu choice, a skill tree, whatever. I sometimes just go left for the sake of going left

I’ve always assumed this is because I’m left-handed so naturally bias towards my dominant side.
It would be interesting to see what other people do.

So, please boost for reach and also please tell me:
@Sobtanian Always left! And I'm right handed so...idk. But left just feels right, no pun intended

@Sobtanian I suspect that left is a popular choice for people who speak a left to right language because we're used to things starting on the left.

@Sobtanian Right-handed and left turns, but I've always thought of it as moving counterclockwise/widdershins

@Sobtanian I think it has to do with reading direction, too.
I often choose the left menu (because it's the first I read and I wanna move along) but in a maze, I go right first. I think because of the idea of sticking out your hand and following the wall will take you everywhere in any maze without islands, and I'm right handed so that's how I visualise it.

@Tryllesokker very interesting as @SirSwatch tells me he always goes left because of mazes, in that you will always escape the maze if you stick to the left.

@arcadia haha makes sense!

@KateMinervaHarris yeah I can see that but I wonder if it’s to do with the language of the game, so even if you’re Arabic (like me, we read right to left) I play games in English so perhaps we go left first because of that, rather than our mother tongue.

@thegiddystitcher have I told you I’ve got a theory that some people just like a good BLOCKING now and then?
It’s the only explanation.

@Sobtanian @SirSwatch It's just a matter of always sticking to one side! Provided that there are no islands inside the maze that aren't connected to the outer walls.

@Tryllesokker @Sobtanian Ahh, interesting. So either always left or right works. I thought I’d read many years ago that it was left, so I’ve always done that.
It was ingrained in me so much that it’s now affected what I do in other things, like choosing a path in video games! 🤪
