@sollat @ai6yr We went through this with our dishwasher detergent, too, not too long ago. We always used to use a specific variety of Finish — and after the change we tried every single one and they're all horribly scented now. Tons of reviews of this, people hate it. I don't understand this fascination with adding massive amounts of horrible scents to EVERYTHING. F*cking obnoxious, again.

@NefariousAryq @sollat @ai6yr Can we tar and feather the person(s) who decided that Kleenex tissues needed to have perfume scent added? I buy in bulk infrequently and ALL of the latest purchase ($50?) stink to high heaven… GRR! (and second the anger at all the other stinky products folks have mentioned in this thread.)

@ai6yr @NefariousAryq I’m still mad at Dawn for changing the scent. 🤬🤬🤬

@joycebell @ai6yr @NefariousAryq Me too! I found an old bottle of Dawn at the dollar store, original scent, & bought it.

@sollat @ai6yr Ugh, yeah, the Dawn we used to use changed the formula recently and became much more scented. We switched to the lemon and unscented, both have been okay for us.

@NefariousAryq @sollat @ai6yr I’m so glad you mentioned that, I didn’t realize they had an unscented one. But it looks like my grocery is now carrying it. The change they made to the original scent was making me nauseated big time. The lemon was one is tolerable but still not great for me on things like silicon utensils.

All those new scented Dawn varieties are terrible.

There’s a new unscented Dawn that’s been okay for me.

Maybe return the Tide? There can be mistakes during manufacturing. I’m still working through my stock and very much hope it’s not coming for me, too.

@sollat @ai6yr @NefariousAryq I didn’t know there was unscented Dawn! I’ll have to look for that. The regular stuff smells like rotting fruit to me.

@NefariousAryq @ai6yr @sollat Back when I commuted to work, I would get raging headaches every Monday morning. I just assumed it was, you know, going to work, but then I realized it was all the SCENTS after a weekend's respite. Hair product! After shave! Laundry detergent! Deodorant! Perfume! A bus load of it!!

Bah! Don’t get me started! Fragrances are totally OOC. The big problem is the (petro)chemical-based smells vs real, plant-based. If it lingers for more than 30 minutes it’s probably chemical. Go to the nuttiest crunchiest grocery (not Whole Foods) near you and they will have some good options. Avoid the main stream brands. We use Sal Suds for laundry and dishes, Ecover is good for dishwasher.

Wait until you get 1990s biochemists talking about Palmolive-gate (might have been a different brand)There was a key step that used Palmolive and then they changed the recipe, people hoarded the good stuff for decades.

But, why people douse themselves in poison, is beyond me. When we get people to come work inside the house, we explicitly request no fragrances.

Doesn’t help when you have to interact with people out in the world. Bah.

Maybe some “influencer” could start recommending people use orange peel or maybe mint instead?

The latest bottle of ‘Tide Free & Gentle’ (unscented) detergent we purchased very clearly has a scent. I thought I was losing my mind but I see numerous recent reviews at different retailers stating the exact same thing. What the actual hell? Why does everything have to be enshittified, even freakin’ laundry detergent?! We’ve used this detergent for years, but never again. Going to have to re-wash my two loads of laundry I did today too after I go pick up some ‘All Free & Clear’. 😡

@NefariousAryq Tide, and most major brands of detergent have long given me skin and sinus irritation. Adding scent to a product labelled as unscented should be a criminal offence.

Lots if old-fashioned folks in my neighbourhood follow the Laundry on Monday tradition, and the air is regularlybrank with tge stink of laundry sheets. How people can think they smell ‘nice’ is incomprehensible.

And now that Covid has damaged the sense of smell in half tge population, many, many people are walking around wearing waaaay to much perfume or other scented product.

                      Ugh.
