    Late #yegBike report:

    Quite cold at -26C but riding conditions were surprisingly good! Most major roads and paths are reasonably cleared.

    Took 95 Ave because the clearing status showed Strathearn MUP not done yet, but will probably get done today if it hasn't already.

    Funicular and elevator both running.

    Quiet #CoffeeOutside today. The fog on the river was eerie but beautiful. Will try to post a short timelapse I took.

        @Daveography The valley photo is very nice. I'm guessing the river is not frozen (?).

          @edwiebe

          It's frozen for most of its length, but just upstream from where this was taken is a warm water outflow from the UofA that usually leaves a big swatch of open water year-round.

            @Daveography They're dumping 'warm' water? That seems very Alberta. 😜

              @edwiebe

              I imagine there's not much else that can be done with it; it's probably not potable after being through any heating/cooling systems, probably not hot enough at that point to, say, heat sidewalks, and reusing it in heating/cooling systems is a good way to gum them up with minerals.

                @Daveography @edwiebe I imagine any outfall to the river -- here and to any other river in North America -- will be relatively warm. Mostly because of the strong diminishing returns in waste heat recovery, but also there are good reasons to want the outfall and piping to it somewhat warm in the winter time. Nobody wants frazil ice.

                  @Daveography Oh Dave, that’s lovely! Thanks for posting it as a GIF for the effect.
