#yegbike commute, pm update: a small fall of snow through the day - maybe a few cm (an inch) of fresh loose powder. If you can find virgin snow on a wide path it's smooth sailing on regular tires, pretty bumpy on ghost footprints. Main roads quite pressed down, minor roads mushy but rideable. Already forming good snowpack, I'm sure tomorrow will be fine for regular tires.Grierson Hill (top half) and Scona Hill MUP already done, pretty impressive actually, @CityofEdmonton #earworm - we had a piano player in for the afternoon entertainment, and she's quite good. One thing she played quite well was the love theme from the 1968 Romeo & JulietThe tasteful piano reduction was nothing like this overblown histrionic version, but even Henry Mancini can't quite smother a good tune!https://youtu.be/GtmW0BfKpA8

#yegbike commute: cold at -20°C, but no wind really makes that temperature quite bearable. Light skiff of snow covering surfaces quite nicely, providing traction on the icy bits. Intersections require caution for pressed ice and chunky bits.Traffic medium, not too annoying at all. Not many people about on the paths or in the inner city. Not a bad ride.#earworm ‘You Really Got A Hold On Me’ Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - with a bit of the Beatles version also.

#yegbike commute - once again didn’t happen, took the bus.Good and cold at -25°C with a stiff and gusty northwest wind that chills to the bone. Some MUPS done, at least the 83rd Ave SconaBahn in Old Strathcona. Looks like good snowpack is forming. The ETS 51 goes right through my family history, so many ghosts.#earworm ‘Doctor My Eyes’, Jackson Browne

#yegbike commute: Slow going, no traction. Looks like maybe 83ave was cleared, not much else. Sidewalks better than roads.

@kagan @ned Yeah, I spent a good 6+weeks hearing almost nothing but driver after driver complaining about how bad the roads were and how hard done by they were because of it, while complaining about how the city spends to much money in the next breath. Sorry to say so many Edmontonians are thoughtless entitled pricks.I do mostly drive, but rejoice every time our city invests in other options, hoping that the day will come that the city and my needs have changed enough that that can change.

#yegbike commute: still cool at -4°C with light southwest winds. Surfaces remain treacherously icy on the river valley paths, but I finally found a route that bypasses the worst parts. And again, the flats are just fine.Traffic was blessedly light, street life were in their tents. Not a bad ride, other than that the #earworm playing my head was ‘Pride In the Name of Love’, U2

#yegbike commute, pm update: 95% of the commute is just fine. Up on the flats parts of the city (99% of it?) roads are bare, paths are merely lightly icy in patches, it's really spring-like conditions. OK, false-spring conditions. But the River Valley... took the Tawatinå (new LRT Bridge) route home. Path behind the Muttart LRT is a mixed bag of all kinds of ices, but 'the dip' north of it is just deadly. Didn't have enough momentum to make it the other side of the dip, so purposely fell over, and inched to the snow on the side before I slid down too far.Similar thing coming up from Mill Creek Ravine, but this time I was prepared. This is all on the spiked tire bike!
