    The Hank Green video on the animation was great.

      @virtuous_sloth Hank Green has been great - but I found he ripped some of the code from my Artemis II tracker that was contributed by someone else pretty verbatim.

      So I'm partial, but I'm not going to make a stink about it. I licensed MIT, I'd just expect my contributor to get the credit they deserve.

        That does not seem in-character for him. It is possible that there might be an alternate explanation that you are aware of?

          @virtuous_sloth looking at github, it's pretty much the same as what a contributor offered my repo.

          Again, I'm not upset about this, I'm sure it's just a coincidence and if it's not, well, I'm glad it's engaging people.

            @chad Right, but Hank was using an LLM. Is it possible your contributor did as well? Or that the LLM was trained on your friend's code in github? Lots of possibilities.

            I'm not saying you are upset but you are accusing him, quite casually.

              @virtuous_sloth yes, Claude was used in this contribution. So yeah, this brings into a greater conversation about whether we can license LLM code.

                @chad @virtuous_sloth That really does blur the lines of attribution. If an LLM generates near equivalent solutions to the same problem in different codebases, that isn't one copying the other, although it might be both copying something else. And how do you tell the difference between that & the LLM copying the code from the first repo?

                  @AmeliasBrain @chad
                  I will point out that, while most people like, want, and deserve social credit for their contributions to the community and that is what drives the world of open source software, it is also true that copyright is encoded as a government-backed monopoly for the purposes of social development. A monopoly on something that is not inherently scarce when not hidden.

                  As I've grown older the less enamoured I'm become of propertarianism.

                    @virtuous_sloth @AmeliasBrain there's a lot of questions here that really can't be answered.

                      @chad If Earth were the size of a basketball, the breathable atmosphere would be the thickness of a coat of paint. 😱
