I will point out that, while most people like, want, and deserve social credit for their contributions to the community and that is what drives the world of open source software, it is also true that copyright is encoded as a government-backed monopoly for the purposes of social development. A monopoly on something that is not inherently scarce when not hidden.

As I've grown older the less enamoured I'm become of propertarianism.

If an LLM generates near equivalent solutions to the same problem in different codebases, that isn't one copying the other, although it might be both copying something else. And how do you tell the difference between that & the LLM copying the code from the first repo?

Is it possible your contributor did as well? Or that the LLM was trained on your friend's code in github? Lots of possibilities.

So I'm partial, but I'm not going to make a stink about it. I licensed MIT, I'd just expect my contributor to get the credit they deserve.

It literally changes the perception of our planet and it has deeply affected every human who experienced it.
