Claims that Toronto's downtown island airport is more accessible to more people than Pearson are foolish and incorrect.

Let's compare 30min driving and 60min transit coverage!

@c_9 Well, it's more accessible from Queen's Park...

@c_9 Even for downtowners, the UP Express has negated that claim.

@c_9 The only snag with your claim is that there’s way more people inside that red zone than in the orange zone - the population density in the city is some of the highest in North America - nearly 4500 people per square km.

@JustinDerrick I’m not so sure. Agree that area is not same as population, and I’ll edit my alt text to make that more clear. But my estimate is the driving red area covers only 2m of the 3m in Toronto. Whereas the orange covers a huge portion of Mississauga and Brampton, plus more of Toronto. I think calling that red area 4m, out of the GTA's 7m, is fair. But now I’m curious and will hunt for better data.

@c_9 Yeah, a I’ll admit the red area doesn’t cover ALL of Toronto proper - but if you can get that tool to calculate area, you might be able to approximate population density numbers.

@JustinDerrick I found some tools but they require desktop, not tablet, so I’ll have to try tomorrow.

@c_9 Not foolish, selfish lies.

@c_9
The folks who live in east Toronto - Scarborough - Pickering - Ajax - Oshawa say otherwise. -

@JustinDerrick Found a minute for a rough attempt just to sanity check, and this website estimates 2.1m inside the red blob for YTZ: https://www.maps.ie/population/
Later I'll try the orange blob for YYZ and see how it compares on the same site, just wanted to share in case you want to check it out.
