I'm also reminded of how absolutely pathetic it is that all these insecure manchildren want to pretend to be hardcore, edge-y, and cyberpunk....my guys, I'm out here hacking my biology with unapproved or even illegal application of pharmaceuticals as I take on the most wealthy and powerful individuals on the planet by living a life that they have declared both impossible and a crime. Oh, and I also smooch other gender criminals while looking badass with an undercut while people say that children merely seeing me will shake the foundations of the current world order.

Just saying...being trans is pretty fucking badass.

@JoscelynTransient THIS. While they role play, we’re living it. Promethea has stolen the fire of the gods, and we’re all better for it!

@JoscelynTransient You are awesome according to my beliefs. I believe that people should be free to modify their bodies and I'm also a trans ally.

@JoscelynTransient I really need to try to look at it from this perspective more often. Since it’s gonna suck either way (until we finally fix it).

@JoscelynTransient I don't take estradiol for its intended use, I use it as a replacement for the regular recommended dose of invermectin coronavirus, which is a fake disease. Cancer too. Fake disease but it still cures it. I also take my E like I take my milk: raw.

Seriously though, so much medicine in general is prescribed off label. I've read in different spots over time that something around 25% of all drug prescriptions in the US are for off-label use. It's not like it's a rare thing. So that makes it all the more ridiculous to use that as an excuse to take it away. Because then you need to take away 25% of *all* prescriptions of literally anything. I mean, obviously they'll not follow that logic at all because it's just a tactic to use against us, but like, if you actually followed the logic, that's where you would end up.

It's kind of bonkers that estrogen HRT for transfems is still basically an "off-label" use for the medication.

I was given an assignment to write a poem based upon a common documentation format, so chose to go with medication instructions and warnings paperwork. Reading the documentation for my estradiol, it's kind of hilarious to see that the uses are still just: menopause and ovarian failure for cis women or to treat prostate cancer in cis men. Trans women and transfeminine people are still not being considered one of the primary patient groups being treated by the medication in 2026.

@JoscelynTransient@chaosfem.tw I find T-blockers even funnier for this. Like side-effects of cyproterone are erectile dysfunction. Side-effect? No, that's a main-effect for a lot of transfems

@JoscelynTransient I've noticed the same thing in the common documentation for my testosterone and transmascs. 🙃 It's all "not for use in females" blah blah blah. No mention of trans HRT.

Which is wild because IIRC some very low dose T is sometimes given to post-menopausal women? Although in that case I suppose it's probably not the injection kind. I haven't seen documentation for gel yet.

@JoscelynTransient@chaosfem.tw it's wild how many medications are like this, not just HRT (though of course there's a huge political factor here). I take a psych med as an adjunct to my antidepressant and it's off-label despite being well understood and multiple doctors have prescribed it to me so it seems "accepted" treatment

@JoscelynTransient I had to sign a waiver saying I knew I am taking my testosterone for off-label reasons. Lots of warnings about not letting it touch a woman. It's just for men whose dick don't work good.

@Bel_tamtu @JoscelynTransient I found it very affirming that the leaflet with mine (gel, fwiw) is like "not for women! You must not let it touch a woman!" and I'm like "you're damn right!" as I slather it on. 🙂

@JoscelynTransient Meanwhile aging cishet guys like me with declining testosterone levels are basically getting high fives from the medical establishment as we show up for our regular testosterone boosts. The obvious double standard makes me crazy.

@JoscelynTransient this is weird but maybe understandable: labeled use usually (in the US) requires an FDA approval process, which requires a certain level of scientific evidence, which requires at least somewhat representative samples in treatment trials. This kind of research for HRT seems like it might be lacking, at least partly because of political shenanigans to restrict it, bit also probably because trans people willing to participate in drug trials might be a really small number... Which is almost certainly influenced by general and medical prejudice.

Not saying the pharmaceutical industry couldn't also be playing "appease the status quo sensibilities" for a few decades.
