@luana The comments sicken me so much, nobody ever thinks about how dystopian and fucked up it is to enforce control on devices for people just because they're young. You'd think these FOSS bros would understand that a system built to spy and control a population would be a bad thing to avoid, but no it's fine when they do it to "their property" of "their" children! How do so few people see that infantilizing children is a wedge to slam fascist systems into society, everywhere.

Ok so XDG and Flatpak are working to kiss the ring on fascist laws. Maybe join the PRs and tell them to not do this?

@luana while I agree wholeheartedly that these laws are awful and need to be protested. It's not feasible for a legal entity like the orgs maintaining open source software to not comply with the laws, they would be breaking the law if they don't comply. These pull requests are only for the specification, the enforcement to use the spec still lies in the hands of distros, governments, and since linux is freely modifiable, the end user as well. The spec needs to exist because the legal requirement is there. Isn't shaming implementers of the spec effectively shooting the messenger?

@luana how neat, they have a law that assists with the marketing towards people of different age groups without having to do the work themselves.

California and tech peeps responsible for this or aiding in it. Just stop, this just makes things worse.

@luana@wetdry.world i'd give it a week before people release a fork that's stripped this shit out lmao

and that goes for any distro that bends the knee, too. linux is free and open and we have the right to tell these lawmakers to piss off.

@zaire @luana so effectively "ethical production under fascism is impossible," honestly probably you're right, but how to fix this? don't comply and wait until the foss orgs get fined?

we have decentralization for a reason. if we cant fight these laws, we at least can hide and try to be too small targets for governments so they probably will not notice us. idk tho.

@luana@wetdry.world It's very disturbing how eager these projects are to jump on the bandwagon of assimilation and fascism.
