The responses to Jay Graber's announcement post are almost universally negative.
AI has begun to reshape every part of our digital experience. I keep coming back to Kranzberg’s first law of technology: “Technology is neither good nor bad; nor is it neutral.” Its impact depends on how it’s used, by whom, and for what.It's the same sort of misreading of Audre Lorde that Cory Doctorow makes, isn't it? Except with much more vagueness.

@AAKL I don't think this just got spun up since 9 March. My guess is their developers have been working on this since before Graber's move. Its purpose is also in keeping with their ATProto roadmap. Problem is, Bluesky users (mostly) don't care a whit about ATProto. They want an edit button and better moderation.

@AAKL That is not what this is. Plenty of folks have deployed agents to Bluesky, and they recently added a robot badge to identify them. Attie is a different thing.

@AAKL @mttaggart There have been a lot of interest from different companies towards collecting data from Bluesky, because it gives direct data feeds for people to collect. That fits well for GenAI companies as a data source for model training. Even while social media data itself is not that good for improving language quality of models, there are a lot of posts giving data for other use cases.

A "feed" such as the type Attie would create is a user-selectable filter or algorithm of Bluesky (or other ATProto applications, in theory) posts. It's entirely user-selectable and can be unselected at any time.
However, you are correct that ATProto data is public by default. Clearsky demonstrates this well. Anyone can see whom anyone has blocked or muted, and of course anyone, including blocked users, can see someone's content with a tool like pdsls.

@mttaggart @AAKL As a feed builder tool, some kind of automated toolkit would make things easier for regular Bluesky users. But most are rightly worried about what else their posts are used for. Sadly most have not realized how openly their posts are already broadcasted and distributed.

@AAKL @autiomaa Let's be super clear here:
Feeds. Are. Good. They are ways to customize the way users interact with Bluesky and ATProto content.
The objections are twofold here. First, a general objection to generative AI in all its forms. Second, a focus on tools like this (i.e. "More AI slop") in lieu of core functionality in Bluesky itself that users have been requesting for ages. It turns out "developers developers developers" is not a super popular strategy with end users who are already unhappy.
