6 hours of listening to music later.

@jwildeboer I keep a couple of 5th gen iPod Nanos going for my Dad. He's got dementia, so every week, I load up one with all his new podcasts, and swap it for his old one

@galooph @jwildeboer that's a really amazing use! 🥹

6 hours of listening to music later. Battery still almost full. Those iPods are still a marvel of technology. And as it is connected to post-battery headphones (Koss PortaPro), I can just enjoy another bunch of hours with fav music

@jwildeboer „post-battery headphones“!

I must make that part of my active vocabulary just like „post-framework websites“… -
@fabienmarry My iPod classic 6th gen is from 2005, the iPod Nano 3rd Gen is from 2007. So 20 years is an acceptable approximation.

@jwildeboer I know, I was joking about being middle aged and not realising time passed.

@jwildeboer It's a very attractive idea, but the 8GB would cause me so much stress to pick which albums I'd put on it and which not.
@ives
My player of choice is the sandisk clip* and not an ipod but the storage restriction is similar. And I don't choose the music placed on them - every few weeks I start a script to randomly fill them with tracks from my locally stored music collection. The music I'm listening to when out of the house was selected by me but is still a surprise. Works for me.*) and yes, I have a whole collection of them to be able to use them a loooong time

Before you throw old iPods away, please send them to me. I will pay shipping costs. I am a hoarder of old tech. I might fix them and give them away to people that need a bit of joy in their life. I am in Munich, Germany.
@jwildeboer good to know.
- Personally, I have none and I do think that #RestoMods of #iPod|s are good.
But nice to see someone closer than #DankPods looking for #Nuggets!
Mostly I'd love to have a #Tangara someday, and not only because @victoriaexplains showcased it…

@jwildeboer 10mei vertrekken wij voor campervakantie richting Slovenië. Plan was München in de eerste week aan te doen. Als we kunnen helpen vervoeren, willen we dat best doen.

For those that don't know, all iPods with the 30 pin connector (so not the very first ones with FireWire) are still fully supported by MacOS. You can connect them to your MacBook with m4 or whatever and Finder will pop up saying "Ah, an iPod, Want me to put music on it?". It's really weird. They work. They are supported. And yes, you can buy USB-C to 30 pin cables for a few bucks that JustWork
.@jwildeboer still occasionally use my iPod Photo. Replaced the battery years ago, still working fine.

(It has a 30 pin-to-firewire connection. No idea if it can communicate with a current Mac)

@jwildeboer I am in the USA. I have an iPod Nano you can have if you want it.

@Waveway A new battery will bring you back to 20+ hours

@jwildeboer would be nice, if iwould be techsavvy enough to change it....
