NEW YORK’S PAPER BALLOTS ARE NOT TIED TO YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION

because it would be against our constution and a violation of human rights.

i was one of the people who campaigned all across the state, educating politicians about the different technologies involved with voting machines.

the system we have in New York keeps voting separate from voter identification:

THIS IS POTENTIALLY NOT THE CASE WITH PAPERLESS VOTING

this is one reason to reject VOTER TRACKING… 🧵

THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT wasn’t written just with African Americans in mind. what was passed in 1965 had to keep being amended and expanded.

that’s why demanding special paperwork, like original birth certificates only to vote were deemed anti-constitutional and a burden akin to a poll tax.

our states of residency already have ways to verify who we are. there is no need to burden voters, especially NATURALIZED CITIZENS… 🧵

FASCISTS MAKE IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR WORKING CLASS MIGRANTS TO GET #USA CITIZENSHIP

naturalized citizens already have to jump through hoops, sometimes for decades, to prove they are worthy of USA citizenship. demanding original birth certificates ONLY TO VOTE has been proven to be a poll tax.

this is why the Jewish American community fought and died with us during the Civil Rights Movement: imagine being a Holocaust survivor and denied the vote because you didn't have a birth certificate… 🧵

I CANNOT BELIEVE I HAVE TO SAY THIS:

the purpose of a voter identification card is not only to suppress the vote, but to TRACK the vote.

voter id laws in the United States have ALWAYS come down to fascists wanting to know who is voting AND FOR WHOM, so they can suppress those votes.

the SAVE Act is not only a voter suppression law, but it’s #MAGA #fascists wanting to codify that Americans do not have a right to a secret vote ―which is a HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION

POLL TAXES ARE THE OF ENSHITTIFICATION OF DEMOCRACY

and fascists will create racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, transphobic, classist, reasons to deny us not just the right to vote, but our civil and human rights.

you can't “model minority” your way out of fascism. you have to fight it by all means necessary.

that’s why in spite of fascist SCOTUS John Roberts, Black Voters do Matter: the antifascist gains of the 1960s protected all of us. without them everybody loses the right to vote. /🧵

                    @blogdiva

Every time I've seen a discussion by information security people about voting systems, the conclusion has been:

If you want both "one person one vote" and "anonymous voting" then there is no pure computer system that can actually give you that with proper auditability.

Paper ballots that are counted digitally are great because you have a hard to tamper with artifact (it's a lot harder to forge a bunch of paper ballots and put them in then to hack a database) for recounts/audits.

                    @gbargoud @blogdiva
What’s the rush? Hand counting is harder to hack.
But if you must use digital counters, you need to hand count 10% of the precincts selected by die roll on election night or kiss the whole thing off. The counters will eventually be hacked. They didn’t steal those voting systems for a lark.

@blogdiva And don’t forget the #SAVE Act, which if passed, will disenfranchise every woman who changed her name when she married. The guardians of pedophiles do not think women are people, and thus shouldn’t have a vote. It honestly goes a long way towards explaining their hate for trans women, they see it as betrayal to the male hierarchy.

NY DOESN’T ISSUE A “VOTER ID”, because it’s randomized. each election cycle, including special elections, they ask all voters to check the rolls; especially if you’ve moved addresses or a family member died. if nothing's changed, you do nothing.

a month before elections we get our elections books with a plastic chip or card with polling site info and a randomized number that brings up our registration info. that’s why the number isn't attached to our paper ballots.

@blogdiva Posted a bit ago about what the original model minority aka AAPIs would experience if the SAVE America Act goes through; spoiler: it will be much more difficult to vote.

Uplift suasion is played out, and people who still engage it need to be sat down with some books.

@blogdiva actually if done properly is as secret as other many EU country require this verification...

But here it's a supression vote as you prevent people who have changed name to vote (women) ...

How do we do it in EU ?

You enter, give your id to someone who check the list (vote is mandatory in belgium), check you voted, give you a nameless vote paper, you go vote, you come back and put it yourself in the vote box, and they give you back your ID.

                            Still secret vote ..

NY STATE REFUSES TO CALL THE CARDS “VOTER ID”; exactly because the QR code randomized for every election and only used to bring up your Board of Elections approved voter registration card.

so y’all may want to double check with your state’s elections boards. am going to bet that the Republican controlled states call them ID cards ―in violation of the Voting Rights Act before Roberts. the law says, you only need proof of having registered to vote because that proves eligibility.

@blogdiva In France, we got a "Carte Électorale" that just confirm our identity and the place where we reside officially. and therefore are suppposed to vote. It only tracks us by saying "hey, this dangerous terrorist is using his/her constitutionnal right to vote" but it cannot in anyway tell the governement the nature of our vote. I always carry it in my wallet along my ID card. (ID cards are compulsory in France,).

                                  #VotingRightsAct #USpol

@blogdiva Compulsory ID Card might seems something that goes against individual rights but i tend to think it enforces individual rights when your dealing with the police in the street", but if you ain't got it, better run....

@Captain69 it’s called a VOTER REGISTRATION CARD, but it isn't a permanent card to carry. it’s a randomized number to bring up in the computer system but, though it may be validated with your state ID, it isn't used to issue voting ballots.

THIS IS WHAT TRUMP’S PARTY WANTS. they want ID numbers tied to ballots. the verification of who you are at the time of voting is bullshit.

@blogdiva I don't know how it works in ID where I live now. But in Washington (where I worked as an observer a couple of times), when you mail in your ballot, it's inside two envelopes. All your identifying info is on the outer envelope, including the signature. The county clerks visually compare the signature to the one in the computer. They throw that away, then drop your *still sealed* inner envelope into the box to be counted elsewhere (by computer). They are very careful to preserve anonymity.

@Timberwolf @blogdiva I'm US Citizen and am also confused by the statement. I've had a voter ID card for decades.

What's going on in the US though isn't that. They're trying to make it so you have to bring proof of citizenship that matches birth certificate. That's hugely problematic for most citizens with a very targeted exception group: well off, white men. I was able to lay down $200 and get mine in a couple weeks and nobody ever asked me to change my name my entire life.

Many US states require a voter to register under a party to allow them to participate in that party's primaries so you wind up with a database of individuals associated with their political preferences.
And having ID to vote is one thing but it's often the kind of ID that get accepted that can make the difference. Like states that allow a concealed weapons permit as voting ID but not a college ID.
Even further, it's pretty common before big elections for Republicans to run a bunch of bills to reduce the number of eligible voters in specific elections, voters that they can pretend to select for arbitrary reasons, but that were actually well calculated from the registration data to have specific and meaningful effects on the election results

Thank you for the explanation. It is interesting. Do they accept a drivers license, passport or birth certificate ?

e.g something that doesn't provide any information that could be misused ?

I'm assuming that a reasonable majority of both major parties drive cars but I could be wrong.

Can you see a reasonable mechanism where you can guarantee citizens get a single vote but foreigners or people trying to vote twice can't ?
