Hiked the last few meters together with this person, who really wanted to take a selfie with a foreigner!

On the ascent, I got to practice my nǐhǎo a lot, the trail was somewhat busy!

People seem surprised, but happy, when I try. And then often respond something I don't understand. Maybe meaning "good luck, you can do it"?

And I got an English "Welcome to China!"

Could you attempt to romanize what they say back to you? I speak a bit and my wife speaks more (we currently live in China for work) so I might be able to tell you what they're saying.
