Ontario had two “jewels” in the City of Toronto — The Science Centre, and Ontario Place. Premier Doug Ford has managed in his tenure to destroy both of them, in both cases for shady and corrupt reasons.
Now he’s working to wreck Toronto’s own jewel, the Toronto Islands, by supporting Porter’s bid to allow jets at the Island Airport, something the citizens of Toronto have rejected repeatedly.
Seriously, has Ford done anything during his tenure that actually makes the Province better? It seems every action he takes makes things shittier. (See also Health Care, School Boards…)
I am happy that he’s been building public transit, but I haven’t forgotten that if he and his brother hadn’t trashed the already-approved-and-funded Transit City plan back in 2010, it would have been long ago completed. So again: shittier substitute.
I cannot figure out why the opposition parties seem to have so much trouble running against his government.

@jvschrag Like the demolition of the East Wing and the "renovation" of the Kennedy Center.
And just like what Bill Davis did with the Scarborough RT, what he's building will be more costly and have significantly less benefit than the plan he killed.
The Canadian Media (and, not to count them out, the Canadian News Consumers largely demand it) devotes so much time and resources to reporting on the US that many Canadians are blind to what's going at home.
Ford, who I'd argue was an inspiration for Trump during his 2012 visit to Toronto to open one of his eponymous towers amidst the Rob Ford Crack Scandal, takes advantage of this by only opening the legislature for a few days each year thereby reducing the number of news cycles where he can screw up, almost exclusively passes omnibus legislation so that critics are divided in priorities & fewer news cycles.
Nevermind that opposition parties are useless at raising issues & keeping media attention, media consolidation (all Conservative) also reduces exposure.

@jvschrag Blame the People. They keep voting for Fords for some stupid reason. Sure, Toronto does not have a majority of Ontario's population. But they obviously have the majority of people of Toronto, and who elected Doug's dead brother?
At some point, you have to put the blame where it really belongs: on very stupid voters.

The failure of our opposition parties is beyond frustrating. Somehow the Cons can go from scandal to scandal, drive up the debt and destroy public goods and services and it all washes off. But mention the NDP and you'll still get, "what about Bob Rae?" With the Libs its the gas plants or something, and neither of them seem to be able to bulldoze through or shake it off. It's as if as long as they're self-satisfied, they don't care about whether they're actually convincing anyone else.
