@fluffykittycat @gorlak @cwebber indeed, and what about content regarding Wicca, or Islam? Where's the line and who decides it?

@demofox @gorlak @cwebber that stuff was literally censored when I was in school, in violation of the 1st amendment, but that was always a joke anyways

@cwebber how does this affect Linux distributions? What if a distro is too small and doesn’t have the means?

@FelisCatusDomesticus @cwebber then you could stop lecturing people on social media. Also, most of what you said about kids under this post applies to addults as well. If kids are “like this” today, maybe it's the grown ups that are to blame. Sorry if I’m being harsh but this comment isn’t helping anyone get anything done 🙁

@cwebber @FelisCatusDomesticus The youth never had an internet that wasn't corporate oligarch-owned extremist scam garbage. So I totally get it if they don't care. A lot of us olds are nostalgic for an Internet that hasn't existed for a long time.

@fluffykittycat @gorlak @cwebber so true. There used to be a great Wiccan search engine avatarsearch.com, it was killed like 15 years ago with the usual reasons for censorship (something is probably squating in its place now). The world is a worse place without it.

@cwebber seems to me that this is evil, but a lesser evil than having to prove my age (actually my identity) to every site on the internet (which will then be pawned)

Actually its a greater evil since one login will access everything rather than having to do lots. Centralisation of anything is the worst form of control there is. Its one reason Mastodon itself is defederated.

@cwebber information is widely available in society.. kids simply don't care. they are more interested in Bad Bunny's superbowl performance than they are about higher issues. This is nothing new. Young people's trivial minds. It's a form of self-disempowerment. A phase everyone must pass through on the way to mature adulthood. That having been said, this proposed law is ludicrous.

@FelisCatusDomesticus @cwebber your posts come off as very ageist and judgemental. I'm pleasantly surprised at how the younger generation understands technology, social media and AI in a way that older generations do not. Perhaps there's a larger portion of the younger generations that are not within your view.

I don't know why you expect that specifically of mine (and the other "younger generations", hopefully excluding gen beta) while we're mostly watching our parents believe every bot post on Facebook

@KarlHeinzHasliP @FelisCatusDomesticus @cwebber this, I'm really tired of older generations complaining about how stupid mine is for not learning the things they refused to teach us. I don't usually quote Blink 182 but I think they summed it up pretty well with "if we're fucked up, you're to blame". Raise your damn kids, teach other people's kids as much as you can get away with, and you might find that we had that potential all along but we were fucking neglected by the generations before ours
