@AAKL @Epic_Null @dademurphy @theregister @lproven I just read this is a one time advanced flow. What’s the issue? As anyone that sideloads apps this creates a one time flow across your account to verify you accept side loading risk. Then you’re done? What am I missing?

@tillbtc @AAKL @Epic_Null @theregister @lproven nothing, but Android users have gotten used to a certain level of freedom and they think this in some way hinders that..🤷🏻‍♂️

@AAKL @tillbtc @Epic_Null @theregister @lproven it’s still “open by default “, you just have to identify yourself first, not a big deal.

      1. HUGE DEAL actually, if you want to make anything with any level of controvercy (say... because it has a rainbow in it).
      2. You also have to pay google money
      3. This is the infrastructure needed to CLOSE it.

@Epic_Null @dademurphy @AAKL @theregister @lproven You are using their software? Thats my point. No, no I dont. So I dont use their software. That simple.

You wanna be open and private and free but have android you should be close with a degoogled aosp anyway. 🤷‍♂️

        @tillbtc @Epic_Null @AAKL @theregister @lproven degoogled software is still AOSP, so you’re still using their software. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Even graphene uses AOSP so they are also using Google’s software.

@dademurphy @Epic_Null @AAKL @theregister @lproven So chromium is the same as Chrome? Brave, built on Chromium I believe, includes all of Googles tracking?

Please don’t face palm me like I don’t know what I’m talking about. You know the difference and if you don’t I don’t care to explain it.

And no, people don’t NEED to ID themselves. Is anyone listening to this is a one time sideloading delay for the life of your account across devices? I feel like I’m yelling into a bottomless pit.

@Epic_Null @dademurphy @AAKL @theregister @lproven You act like sideloading is gone. Do you understand how it works. Must not. If you did, “HUGE DEAL” wouldn’t be the descriptor. Unrecognized apps will require a 1 time over your Google accounts life cooling off period to accept unsigned apps for 24 hours. The infastructure? Friend Google owns the whole software stack. If this is what set you over it’s surprising.

@tillbtc @dademurphy @AAKL @theregister @lproven A one time step designed to discourage people from doing so today. But will it still be that next year? When it breaks, is the inscentive not to simply remove the feature?

If it seems like no one is hearing you, it's because what they hear in your words is that Google's PR trick has worked. That you believe that Google means what they say, even though this is the beginning of an all-to-familiar slight of hand.

Google is altering the deal. Why wouldn't they alter it further? Why wouldn't they move closer to what appears to be their end goal?

@Epic_Null @dademurphy @AAKL @theregister @lproven If your biggest concern with Google is back pedaling on side loading it’s my belief you need to reasses your priorities. Enjoy your what appears to be passionate hate for user safeguards in a world of bad actors, that’s fine. Everyone can 💯 be them. Please understand the conversation is going no where therefore it’s best it fizzles. 😂 Cheers.

@tillbtc @dademurphy @AAKL @theregister @lproven I believe in safeguards. I just don't believe this is one of them. If it were, it would be tried on the playstore first, and the playstore wouldn't have a malware problem.

@tillbtc @Epic_Null @AAKL @theregister @lproven I have forgotten more about android then you’ll ever know. You’re the one talking about running your own software, I am simply pointing out that your software is still using Google’s to function.

@dademurphy @Epic_Null @AAKL @theregister @lproven None of this I care about, respectfully. My response was simply to point out the reporting was incorrect. That’s all. Period. I never wanted to get into an AOSP vs Android debate. Open sourced is not closed source. That is arguably and factually provable. I don’t know if you know how AOSP works but it isn’t just Google building Android..
