IPA pronunciations are broken in iOS 27.0 beta 1!

If this doesn't get fixed before release every audio pronunciation for over 4000 words in the Wordhord will be broken and my users will be very disappointed.

It seems like iOS 27 is just ignoring any IPA symbols and attempting to speak the remaining characters.

Please share with any AVFoundation Apple people you might know.

@TheQuinbox Well at least iOS is now consistent with screen readers on every other platform... #shitpost

@ryanlintott This is awful, here's hoping they resolve it! I had to point out how happy it makes me that you're using my favorite voice, though :)so glad they brought nicki compact back.

@TheQuinbox I didn't think they got rid of Nicky, they just no longer include her with the OS by default so you have to go hunting in the settings to download. Weird thing is, once you download Nicky, you can't delete her.

@ryanlintott At least to VoiceOver, starting around iOS 10, Nicki compact got removed as an option and the only one you saw was the premium / enhanced version that's around 190 MB. In I think it was iOS 17 they readded it. How weird.

@TheQuinbox @ryanlintott Oh, does this also affect voiceover's pronunciations via the dictate button?

@x0 @TheQuinbox yup, THE same voiceover voices are used to play the audio IPA pronunciations.
