    The Labour Govt. wants to increase the construction of housing (while recognising there is a shortage of skilled building workers, not least of all due to the impact of the Govt.s Reform-friendly immigration stance), and Keir Starmer has declared his support for a pivot to valuing Further Education more highly.

    All very well, but then then funding allocations were announced for FE Colleges, it turns out they have received a real-terms cut in funding.

    Just hopeless.

        @ChrisMayLA6 I am really shocked to see Starmer making a valliant attempt to be worse than BoJo or Truss.

        It would be interesting to know if he’s succeeded.

            @ChrisMayLA6 I'd suggest they put in place incentives to renovate and rent out existing empty houses, but that also requires builders and other trades. Has anyone worked out whether it would be more effective?

              @rpluim

              Its a good Q.; much depends on the quality of the dilapidated housing - I know in Liverpool a vast area was demolished as the housing stock was in such a bad way (single skin walls etc.) that bringing it up to current building standards was not feasible or cost-effective (even though some would argue those standards themselves are not stagnant enough)

                @ChrisMayLA6 Intuitively even demolishing and rebuilding is better than taking some undeveloped land in the middle of nowhere and plonking down a new estate. Existing developments are also more likely to be near public transport and amenities.
