    Okay this is really unfair.

    Regional Indonesian food in Philly (so many just in a couple of blocks).

    We chose Cafe Seulanga, which has food almost exactly like the nasi padang style food I would have for lunch back home.

    They even had mie Aceh.. really legit ayam goreng (Sumatra style, not the crispy kind), and excellent definitely homemade sambal.

    Explained to my friends that this is a very typical lunch there (maybe 50% of the portions)

      @skinnylatte I should go to Philly more often. It’s a short train ride.

            That looks delicious. I only recently discovered fried chicken dishes in a few Vietnamese joints in the South Bay and that stuff melts in your mouth! I'll probably eat them bones and all next time (it's been too long). [still haven't wrapped my head around what region they're from]

              @skinnylatte Bookmarking this. I only know one Indonesian restaurant in NYC (in Manhattan, there might be others elsewhere and I haven't looked recently). Philadelphia is only about an hour and a half drive from my house on the Jersey Shore.

                I use the word legit not in the English way but in the Indonesian way:

                Not just ‘authentic’ but ‘top quality’

                    @skinnylatte Philadelphia is one of the best restaurant cities in the world, not just in the US. I'm originally from NYC, but I've lived more of my life in and around Philadelphia, and I consider it my adopted hometown.

                            @skinnylatte
                            Sounds like you're getting to some local neighborhoods a bit out of downtown/Center City. I call Philly a "city of villages." I've never been lucky enough to spend time in Asian cities, but I think it's like London that way. There's sprawl at the edges (inner and outer suburbs), but Philly's footprint is a great, connected web of neighborhoods with unique and often blended character.

                            Hope you enjoy it!!
