    @mekkaokereke

On top of this political system can distract itself with a lot of performative bullshit while 90% of the population is having trouble making ends meet no matter what size shape, gender or skin tone they have.

The problem is the super rich and the corporations who have deliberately worked to seize the means of government.

The flaming fire of hate that they benefit from, is the thing we need to overcome.

Minnesota is an exemplary here. It is something like what we need.

100% agree, but would propose a minor change:

    > the super rich and the corporations who have deliberately worked to seize the means of government

    into

    > the super rich and the corporations who have deliberately bought the means of government [using their privilege of printing money]

Corporations love employee resource groups they create along dozens of axes, to divide and conquer the potential of development of employee unions with real solidarity among all employees.

A big part of the reason the world is in its current predicament, is that a lot of US white people *on the left* still can't acknowledge how corrosive and harmful the DEI pushback was and still is. They also can't acknowledge that the anti-Black pushback started before Trump came into office. They can't acknowledge their part in it.

Again, white people *on the left* laughed when Elon fired almost all the Twitter employees and ended all the Black ERGs. Up until 2024, People were still asking me "Why don't you like Elon?🤡"

There was no outcry when all the DEI and inclusion professionals were pushed out of tech and higher education. Black journalists being fired caused no widespread panic. There was a lot of "I don't talk politics!"

But then DOGE did the same to scientists in general, and now there was panic. Kimmel getting fired raised more outcry than every Black journalist firing combined.

Saying that 300,000 Black women were fired in this anti-DEI pushback, has no real impact on them. They can't feel that empathy for Black folk. Being anti-woke is "just an opinion."

Now I see daily jokes about "Woke is back!" No. Woke never left. I've been Black this whole time. The 300,000 Black women fired have been Black this whole time. The Black journalists pushed out of their jobs have been Black this whole time.

So the NYT is giving it a clearly positive impact to forcibly exclude people, i.e. racist D.E.I. shit? Also Trans issues no impact whatsoever and still on the positive? Surely German third Reich fascists didn't care either, putting 'em in camps...

        Well... I've got BIG NEWS!

»At least 10 columnists and writers of the NYT are nothing but utter trash.«

Aside - they spelled “corruption“ completely wrong, because it's not spelled “deregulation“ and they would only do that because they're just as corrupt.

Yeah, I know you’re always gonna work that angle.

Economic power is much more than just money. It’s a tool, but controlling the means a production access to shelter and to resources is much larger than money, although it is greatly enabled by it.

It’s all the miserable fucking super rich. Beyond a certain level of wealth and baby on the way towards it before they step over the threshold to morbid wealth the people that go down that path have to choose to hate their customers and their employees. The desire to exploit others to profit is the disease.

as a high level narrative, that is true, but it is hard to act on it.
Analyzing the mechanisms that enable the control makes change actionable though.

              e.g.
"a company/boss has the power to control workers"

...and its multifacetted what that means in practice, but you can also rephrase that into pointing out the single dominant underlying enabeling mechanic instead:

"a company/boss can stop paying people"

...agreeing on the latter allows aligning actions

@mekkaokereke To those people supposedly on the left that admire Musk whatever he does and speak shit about dei, trans matters, feminism, anti-racism, etc we call it "rojipardos" in spanish, from "roji->rojo->red" and "pardo->brown, but the shade of brown of the brown shirts of the german nazi party". In other words, they are not left wingers, they are troyan horses and bad faith actors. They are the same that afterwards become right wingers because "they were given no other choice".

but collective action needs focus and coordination and the fewer schelling points the more effectiveness is possible.

So the more targeted a d specific an agreed upon problem is characertized, the easier it gets to also converge on the best path of action.

everyone already knows the rich control the means of production, but its not very helpful in understanding root causes that can be targeted by collective action imho

I keep talking and screamin' about this and pointing it out and trying to do my part to remedy this obliviousness and will continue, but just gotta say, talk about an endless frustration trying to get it across. Every victory is so small it often seems insurmountable to continue, but fuck it I do in spite of that.

Anyway, solidarity, keep advocating the good fight, I'm gonna keep pushing and trying til my dying breath!

what gets people angry is the fact they can’t feed their kids or themselves and keep a roof over their heads.

The super rich and their corporations have deliberately pushed economic empowerment off of the public stage and replaced it with making sure that the same proportion of pick your group is participating in a system of exploitation.

When MLK and when Malcolm X started talking about class struggle, it wasn’t too long after that both of them ended up assassinated.

I’ve heard all colours fight DEI because they are there on merit and want that to apply to all. 🤦‍♂️

This is why the right wing take over of the media works. People fight themselves when the narrative is swapped out.

DEI is exactly about equity and equality. DEI is about merit.

                            I might have missed something:
What do "ten NYT columnists" have to do with the US left?
We're talking about, like, Bret Stephens, Ezra Klein & co, yes?

                              It's a fair question!

This is the favorite paper of left leaning people in the US. The NYT published this and "The Left" didn't have an immediate visceral allergic reaction to it. Because "The Left" still doesn't accept or process how anti-Black and anti-trans this paper is.

Thank you. I get it now.
This has me wondering what an allergic reaction might look like. I grudgingly admit that me and a few dozen like-minded accounts talking about the NYT being awful here on Mastodon might potentially not rise to the level.
                                I'll think about that.

Back when it came out, I felt the urge to reverse and invert this nonsense scatterplot, and it was surprisingly a lot more accurate to (how I saw) the landscape at the time.

They what?!!? The second Obama even started looking like a presidential contender, Facebook/twitter started exploding with racist bullshit.

                                    IT WAS PLAIN AS DAY.

                                      Agreed!

To be clear, I don't think that the NYT has ever been a leftist paper. They really said "Michael Brown, due to be buried on Monday, was no angel." about an unarmed child killed by police. They ran Trump's full page ad on the Central Park Five. It's always been like this.

I'm saying that it's the favorite newspaper of the US left, not that it's a leftist paper.

Like saying that Trump is the favorite candidate of Cuban American men in Florida, is not the same thing as saying that Trump likes the Cuban American men in Florida. It's more of a "stop hitting yourself!" situation. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Most of the 'liberal' white middle class can't even understand the 'war on drugs'. Maybe some more bubble charts would help.
Seriously, though, until we start taking school board elections seriously the south will continue to win with generation after generation of ignorant public school graduates who don't believe the world their grandparents lived through and we are still living through.
